Don't know The Frames? This is a wonderful introduction album. The fact that there are so many in the US that have yet to experience this wonderful long-living, hard-playing and well-toured band depresses me. It's like the metric system: the entire rest of the world knows and uses it, but not the US. Well, wake up...U2 and the Chieftains are not the only musical products out of Beautiful Ireland. This group is listed Indie Pop, but it's so much more. The songwriting and the vocals give you a sense of many different artists. Glen has an amazing talent for reaching into your heart and grabbing it. What has this man been through? He's funny, soulful, raucous and incredibly energetic. The band is pure gold talent and so generous to the listener. You know they love you loving their music. Still not sure? Go to www.FabChannel.com and watch one of their concerts and get back to me. If you have a soul, you will house The Frames in it!

5.0 out of 5 stars precious collection, September 25, 2003
This review is from: The Roads Outgrown (Audio CD)
a very well selected number of songs make the roads outgrown a masterpiece not only for the frames newcomer but also for the die hard "go to every whelans concert though i live in the us" fan. the live version of fitzcarraldo with jan hruby is probably the most beautiful song ... period. and with "rise" and "tomorrow's too long" there are songs on the ep that cannot be heard on the regular cds.

4.0 out of 5 stars A pretty Good offering, August 31, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Roads Outgrown (Audio CD)
The Roads outgrown is a b-sides, yes, but it truly reflects that, even their unreleased material is absolutely magnificent. Tunes like the brilliant rise and god bless mom are highlights, but I suppose you'd have to check out Set List, their live album,to appreciate Ireland's finest in their entirety.

Awesome CD! If you like the music of the Frames you will love this CD. I love the rich Irish overtones and originality too. U2 and the Chieftains are not the only musical products out of Beautiful Ireland. This group is listed Indie Pop, but it's so much more. If you haven't heard them before, give them a try!

I love the Frames, and one of the best things on this cd is the live copy of Fitzcarraldo, just beautiful.
