I wanted a short video about Roanoke Colony to show some middle-school homeschooled boys whom I am tutoring. This fit the bill perfectly. It was entertaining enough and not too gory, in spite of the fact that many gory things happened at Roanoke (I have watch a couple of other videos that were way too violent to show to middle school children). The facts seem to be accurate, and they were not stated in a boring way as so often is the case with documentaries. It showed the father pacing around awaiting the birth of the first European child in the New World, and we got to see how the child may have been baptized in an outdoor church service. It shows the hostility between the Native Americans and the English without showing partiality. It showed White's reluctance to leave for supplies and explained why he was delayed from returning so long.

I was looking for a historical video about the Lost Colony for my son. This is all I found. It doesn't do a very good job of making the info interesting, and some of the historical information presented is of questionable accuracy. However, it is the only thing out there I could find on the subject.

As an educated adult, I found this video to be rather lacking in production values. It was obviously made on a budget. Still, I found it entertaining enough to watch all the way through. The information presented is historically accurate, by that I mean it complies with the contemporary records of the time, diaries and journals and recorded documents of the Elizabethan Age, that have survived into our time. The filmakers carefully avoided making assumptions about what isn't known historically. Nothing new here. I didn't care for some of the theatrics, which are, frankly, a bit juvenile, but I found it entertaining enough to watch all the way through.

For myself as a viewer, I would give in three stars. But as a teaching video for elementary to middle school children, I give it four. Better than average.

This is good! It's only a half an hour, and through good narration and fine acting tells the true story of the colony of Roanoke, that once was and then disappeared when a group of English explorers returned after having gone back to England for a while. This is not narrated by a child, as some on the American Indian were.
