Book Description

Before Perry and Aria, there was Roar and Liv.

After a childhood spent wandering the borderlands, Roar finally feels like he has a home with the Tides. His best friend Perry is like a brother to him, and Perry's sister, Liv, is the love of his life. But Perry and Liv's unpredictable older brother, Vale, is the Blood Lord of the Tides, and he has never looked kindly on Roar and Liv's union. Normally, Roar couldn't care less about Vale's opinion. But with food running low and conditions worsening every day, Vale's leadership is more vital—and more brutal—than ever. Desperate to protect his tribe, Vale makes a decision that will shatter the life Roar knew and change the fate of the Tides forever.

Set in the harsh but often beautiful world of Veronica Rossi's "unforgettable" Under the Never Sky (, this captivating prequel novella stands on its own for new readers and offers series fans a fascinating look into the character of Roar. Poignant and powerful, Roar and Liv is a love story that will "capture your imagination and your heart." (Justine on Under the Never Sky)

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect addition to the series October 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I fell in love with Roar from his very first scene in Under the Never Sky, so when I found out Veronica Rossi was writing an entire novella dedicated to Roar, you can imagine my excitement. He's so funny and sweet and caring and sexy, and he was a bit of a scene stealer whenever he made an appearance in Under the Never Sky.

Roar and Liv takes place right before Under the Never Sky. We never get to meet Liv in UTNS, but we hear a lot about her from both Perry and Roar. It was nice to officially `meet' the girl that Roar is so crazy in love with, and to see them interact. Their sweet little moments together and their conversations made me laugh, swoon, sigh, and a couple of them were downright sexy and nearly took my breath away.

I also loved seeing more of Perry and Roar together. I adore those two! Their relationship runs so much deeper than friendship - they're like brothers (or as Perry said to Roar, "You're better than a brother" - which just about made me cry).

For a short story, Rossi sure packed an emotional punch. I felt like I spent a lot of the story grinning like an idiot and giggling like a school girl at the things Roar said and thought, but beyond that, there were really touching moments between Roar and Liv and Roar and Perry, and just like in Under the Never Sky, Vale, Perry and Liv's older brother made my blood boil.

An excellent addition to the Under the Never Sky series, Roar and Liv is a little taste of the amazing world and characters Rossi built, and it makes me even more eager for Through the Ever Night (January 2013).

5.0 out of 5 stars Let's Hear More ROAR! November 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Short and Sweet, I loved this novella as part of the Under the Never Skies series by Veronica Rossi. I have read a few of these recently-popular-side-note-character tales as of late, and while they add insight to the main story and are well written, they don't usually pull me in the way this one has. Not only was I won over by Liv's character, but I also loved learning more about Roar and his backstory. He is so pivotal to the main storyline and his history with Perry's sister Liv, gives so much explanation as to his connection with Perry, why he helps Aria, the criticalness of Perry's relationship with her and his soft spot for their affection towards each other.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice addition to the series January 24, 2014
By Misha
Format:Kindle Edition
I love Roar, so I was very happy to see this novella. Surprisingly, what I actually loved the most about this story was learning more about Perry. Given everything he has gone through, he is truly an incredible and very humble person. I was blown away with his strength, loyalty, and bravery. I enjoyed reading more about his friendship with Roar and now I really understand their bond.

I didn't want to love Roar and Liv together because I have a feeling Rossi is going to break my heart later on, but of course I did. I liked how their relationship was rooted in friendship, and it was heartwarming to see how much Roar was willing to fight for her. I can't imagine being in Liv's position and trying to cope with the pain of being separated from my family and the man with whom I want to spend the rest of my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roar and Liv - 5 Stars April 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I usually don't write review for novellas. Mainly because they are so short, but also because I just never really get into them. They are usually a nice addition to a series, but they never leave a lasting impact. However, Roar and Liv is not your normal novella. It added so much to series in just a few pages, and opened you up to a completely new side of Roar. It was absolutely wonderful and well worth the $2.99.

Roar and Liv is the prequel to Veronica Rossi's popular Under the Never Sky, and tells the story of, you guessed it, Roar and Liv. For those of you who don't know, Liv is the sister of Perry (one of the main characters in Under the Never Sky) and Roar is Perry's best friend. In Roar and Liv we get just a small glimpse into the relationship between Roar and Liv, but from that small glimpse you can see that they truly love each other and that they would do anything for each other.

Roar and Liv is an amazing novella and is a must-read for anybody who has or is planning to read the Under the Never Sky series. Veronica Rossi has created amazing characters that you are sure to fall in love with. I don't think this series gets the attention that it deserves. It's one of the best out there right now. So my advice? GO BUY THIS NOW! It is so worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking but so good. December 28, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a short story set before Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi. If you have read Under the Never Sky, you already know these characters and the events that take place in this short story. If you haven't read it yet, then you must do so, because the book is amazing. Just posted a long review of it. Loved it.

This is a story about Roar and Liv. We didn't get to meet Liv in Under the Never Sky. A bit sad about that. Hoping she will show up in the sequel. Anyway. We do know Roar, though. And I might have loved him a bit more in this short story. Never more than Perry, though. But yeah. Roar is awesome. He's sweet and kind. A bit dumb, and he might drink a lot, but I still liked him.

The romance between Roar and Liv is so good. They are like made for each other. And I liked that. I liked reading about them. But yeah. Nothing that good ever lasts. This story centers around the time where Liv got sold to another Blood Lord. An rich, evil man. We don't meet him. But I kind of don't want to. He sounds awful. But also kind of fascinating, to be honest.

While this short story is just from Roar's point of view, which I loved, we also get to see Perry. And omg. He's just so perfect. But my heart seems to break for him all the time, which kind of sucks. He had such a bad time growing up. And now, with his brother Vale as the Blood Lord. His brother is a cruel man. I didn't like him at all. Gah. Evil creature. Just like his father. Anyway. Perry is amazing. So sweet. And protective. And kind. And just all kinds of loving. Yeah. He is my favorite character, always.

Anyway. This story is mostly about Roar and Liv. And I did love that. Even if, as you all know, this story does not have a happy ending. I do have hopes for Through the Ever Night, though. Hopefully.
