As a huge fan of period paper dolls, I was impressed with this collection. The book contains 8 dolls - 4 girls and 4 guys. Each girl has 5 to 6 outfits and Tierney gives detailed descriptions of the models' personality types. The men do not have any clothes, but each character clearly represents the various types of men in this time period. I enjoyed this collection because it gives good examples of what the women of this period might have worn without adhering to only the "flapper" girl. The descriptions also give complete fashion guides for those who are interested in the designers and fabrics. I also enjoyed Tierney's explanation of the moral and social standings of the twenties. This is a charming collection!

Tom Tierney has produced (at least) five collections for the 1920s, each focussing on a different aspect of clothing. His American Family of the 1920s Paper Dolls in Full Color collection concentrates on the clothing of ordinary, moderately well-off people. Great Fashion Designs of the Twenties: Paper Dolls in Full Color is a collection of haute couture for the period; there are also works concentrating on Erte (More Erte: Fashion Paper Dolls of the Twenties). This falls in between: clothing for those more fashionable than the ordinary person, but not designer pieces.

Tierney's paper doll clothes would be somewhat difficult to cut out, but these books make an excellent fashion reference. Each piece has a clear description, with details of fabric, hair, etc.
