This review is from: Roasted Turkish Hazelnuts / Filberts (1 Pound Bag) (Unsalted") (Misc.)
'A hazelnut is the nut of the hazel and is also known as a cob nut or filbert nut according to species. A cob is roughly spherical to oval, about 15-25 mm long and 10-15 mm in diameter, with an outer fibrous husk surrounding a smooth shell. A filbert is more elongated, being about twice as long as it is round. The nut falls out of the husk when ripe, about seven to eight months after pollination. The kernel of the seed is edible and used raw or roasted, or ground into a paste. Hazelnuts are also used for livestock feed, as are chestnuts and acorns. The seed has a thin dark brown skin, which is sometimes removed before cooking.' Wikipedia

I bought these hazelnuts/filberts to use for a recipe, and I could not find them readily available. My son lives in Oregon, and these nuts are known as filberts and one can see them everywhere. In the East they are more available in the winter months just before Christmas. They arrived packaged in plastic bags that were firmly sealed. I received two bags and froze one bag for future use. As reported, they are delicious used for a snack. I used them to make Hazelnut Chocolate Chip Cookies. You have not tasted a real delicious chocolate chip cookie until you have added hazelnuts. Hazelnuts are rich in protein and unsaturated fat. Moreover, they contain significant amounts of thiamine and vitamin B6, as well as smaller amounts of other B vitamins. Hazelnuts give that extra zeal to recipes and to everyday eating.

Highly Recommended. prisrob 12-03-11

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious nuts, June 20, 2011

I bought the hazelnuts to use in making a version of Prince William's groom's cake, but they are delicious eaten alone or ground and mixed with Neufchatel to make cucumber sandwiches as well, for example.
The packer needs to secure the plastic boxes with tape, however, so that nuts don't escape, rattle about in the package, and thus become inedible.

I purchased these nuts and then discovered I needed them for an event earlier than I had expected. I was shocked how fast they came, much faster than they had predicted. The nuts are of top quality and foil sealed for freshness.
