5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
If you like sad, but also romantic music, this is it. The soundtrack could be categorized together with Danny Elfman's Sommersby, although this score is more emotional.

Since many music fans do not have a certain dark melancholy inside, they discard this score as mediocre or even bad...

2.0 out of 5 stars WARNING! INCOMPLETE
This movie had a wonderful musical score but unfortunately this CD does not have all tunes and melodies as heard during the movie. For instance, the music during the scene where Argyll upbraids Montrose during Montrose's card game and the music (two scenes later) where MacGregor arrives at Montrose's estate to inform Montrose of the lost/stolen money. Both were...

IT IS PERFECT! There is deep romance (not superficial, although at first this may sound so...), haunting drama (Troops in the Mist and Honor Inflamed), realistic action music that even reaches heartbreaking emotion (Rannoch Moor Suite) and an "end of evil" cue for Cunningham (Love and Death Suite)...!
This score was overlooked thanks to James Horner's Braveheart.

Rob Roy and Fargo are Burwell's best works, both emotional and dark, with a romantic twist in Rob Roy and with a comical twist in Fargo.

Keep listening to these scores and they will strike you as musical gems!

This review is from: Rob Roy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack From The Film (Audio CD)
Having visited Scotland a couple of years ago, I can slide this little CD in while driving and I feel like I am back there!! This is the type of music that I can listen to all day (and sometimes do) and never get tired of it!! It is majestic and moving, sometimes sad but oftimes a pick me up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Moving, October 29, 2000
This review is from: Rob Roy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack From The Film (Audio CD)
I must disagree with an earlier review which thought this CD was incomplete. The missing pieces he sights weren't written for this film, they were added to relatively insignificant scenes. This CD contains the sweeping, romantic score as well as the Gaelic traditional tune that were recorded for the film - a very rich and beautiful mix.

5.0 out of 5 stars An incredible score to an incredible film!!!!, October 15, 1998
By A Customer

The soundtrack to Rob Roy is one that puts you in the film and makes you feel the fear that the characters experience. Carter Burwell's score has multiple moments where the listener feels he is Liam Neeson, running from the evil Tim Roth. The film is better than the other 1995 Scottish hero film - Braveheart. All the critics thought so, yet ironically Braveheart one the Best Picture Oscar and 4 other oscars while Rob Roy only got one nomination. The music to Braveheart is wonderful too, but Carter Burwell's score should have been nominated also.

Both were absent on this CD and those two were the main tunes for which I purchased the CD. If one watches the closing credits of the video it can readily be seen that several titles are not on this CD: "Nutmeg and Ginger", "O'Sullivan's March" and a few others.

Does anyone out there know if there is a complete soundtrack to Rob Roy because to me this is not it. Too bad because this was a priceless musical score.

Ò, Cho milis seo ceòl tha do m'anam. Bha Raibeard Ruadh iontach 'gus tha fhios ormsa air e! 'S sin òran sheinn le Cairein Mhatheson, Ailein Duinn... Ò, cho brèagha...'s cho brònach cuideachd. Tha eachdraidh glè bhrònach aig nas Albannaiche, tha fhios orm... ach tha mi sona gun tha fhios oirnn air sin eachdraidh. Uill... Bha gràdh agam do seo ceòl... agus Alba. And the song sung by Karen Matheson, Dark(-haired) Allan... O, so beautiful... and so sad too. The Scots have such a sad history, I know... but I'm happy that we know that history. Well... I will love this music...and Scotland. I will think of thee, Scotland, and of thy life and music. You will love this music! Scotland forever!

5.0 out of 5 stars very very nice, April 29, 2003

well, with regards to the earlier that this cd is incomplete, i suppose that is true... not all of the tunes found in the movie are on this cd. but anyone looking for that version of o'sullivan's march should buy the original chieftains best of cd, which is, i assume, where they found the march, since it's the same version. but this soundtrack in itself is extraordinarily beautiful, whether you've seen the movie or not. it does start sounding like a soundtrack a bit when the main themes come up again for the third or fourth time, but i still always want to play it again when its over.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rob Roy Soundtrack is wonderful!, August 14, 2005

I am an avid listener of classical music and soundtracks. Rob Roy is one of the soundtracks that are worth the buy, if you are interested in the celtic soothing sounds of Scotland. I encourage you to buy this soundtrack, you will enjoy it's sounds.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Soundtrack by Carter Burwell, June 23, 2004
This review is from: Rob Roy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack From The Film (Audio CD)
Carter Burwell's score to ROB ROY is pretty good. I did not care that much for the movie, but Burwell's score is very good. He did his homework and it shows or should I say sounds.
