Not a good book for boards (USMLE Step 1) review,
This review is from: Robbins and Cotran Atlas of Pathology, 1e (Hardcover)
If you are in medical school it is hard to use this book and also read big or medium Robbins & do the review questions because of the time constraint. The big or medium robbins contains all the information you need to ace you pathology class & to get a good foundation in pathology. As for studying for the boards using big or little robbins is impractical because it is impossible to cover all 800 pages (medium robbins) or 14oo pages (big robbins) in the time period (1-2 months) set aside for studying for the boards. It is much better to use a review book (i.e. rapid review pathology) to study for the boards. I listened to the 1st comment on this book & bought the book but realized after using it that there are much better (& more efficient) ways to study for the boards. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK TO STUDY FOR THE BOARDS unless you have more than 3 months to study for the boards and even then this book is not the best for board review.

A Great Adjunct to "Big" Robbins & Cotran!,
By MG MD (Nashville, TN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Robbins and Cotran Atlas of Pathology, 1e (Hardcover)
This new atlas has LOTS of additional photos of pathologic specimens (both gross and microscopic images, with many helpful radiologic correlations) not included in the 7th edition of Robbins & Cotran. The photos are of excellent quality, and follow along, chapter-for-chapter, with the text for ease of review. Key features are highlighted by use of focal symbols placed within the images to direct the reader to landmarks detailed within the corresponding captions. The captions are substantial, and reinforce important concepts by using many of the same key words and phrases found in the more detailed text, as well as including additional information to enhance understanding. One thing is certain: In the field of pathology, pictures always help! This atlas wasn't available when I took sophomore pathology in medical school, but I am glad to now have it as a companion to "Big" Robbins as part of general pathology practice and review. So why didn't I give it "5 stars", you ask? Because there is always room for improvement, and since this is R&C's first atlas, more reviews are needed for this and future editions before extoling perfection. Regardless, I think they're off to a good start!

Second edition atlas review,

This review is from: Robbins and Cotran Atlas of Pathology, 2e (Robbins Pathology) (Paperback)
Excellent compendium of pictures, and even more than first edition. Accompanying descriptions also quite helpful. If you wish to see a more complete collection of path images- slides/imaging/gross specimens- this is the best book available in the world, I suspect.
My only criticism- this second edition, while having a beautiful cover, may have a limited shelf life BECAUSE THE BEAUTIFUL COVER IS SOFT, AS OPPOSED TO THE FIRST EDITION, which has a hard cover. This deterioration in quality of the cover of medical books in general, as well as this particular book sucks like a Replogle tube. This is why only 4 stars. I recommend this book to any physician during or after training, because Pathology is the ground floor of all Medicine and separates us from the Massage Therapists.

Excellent companion to your pathology text,
By EBZ "EBZ" (Medical College) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Robbins and Cotran Atlas of Pathology, 1e (Hardcover)
Use as a companion to your Robbins Pathology TB or Goljan Pathology RB, is excellent for learning and reviewing material and step prep. Is divided in to chapters by organ systems. Gross path and Micro path covered with descriptions of the image (pathology + high yield facts). Some images are in the Robbins textbook but this has so many more.

Amazing photos,
This review is from: Robbins and Cotran Atlas of Pathology, 1e (Hardcover)
This book is great, it has great photos and images that complement the text well. The images are clear and easy to see. The brief explanations are great too, and really highlight what is important in the image.

Love at first sight - for all the visual learners,

This review is from: Robbins and Cotran Atlas of Pathology, 2e (Robbins Pathology) (Paperback)
I am a visual learner and when I first laid eyes on this book, I HAD to have it. It did not disappoint. On the clinically common subjects there are usually more than 3 pictures, so you can get accustomed to seeing it from every angle possible. The thing that hooked me to this book was that next to the pictures there are 1-6 lines of description which is a super high-yield summary of what you need to know about the pathology(etiology, pathogenesis, morphology, correlations, complications).

Most pathology images are just blurs of pink to me, so I needed a book that could provide further explanation. This does the job more than adequately.

Atlas of Pathology,
By Diverse Diva "Div" (Global Citizen) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Robbins and Cotran Atlas of Pathology, 2e (Robbins Pathology) (Paperback)
I have enjoyed using this Atlas to review for boards. The pictures are different from the ones presented in the middle sized pathology book. I would recommend using the atlas along with another larger pathology book to help reinforce what you have learned (especially if you are a visual learner). If you plan to use it to review for boards I would recommend only using it if you have several months to prepare and in addition to other books.

Great Pics,

This atlas provides many great pathology pictures both of histopathology slides and gross specimens. The book should be coupled with a good pathology reference like Robbins or even Goljan to maximize learning. The examples are good for test purposes but also for USMLE and clinical medicine. This book will make you a better doctor and I recommend it highly.
