3.0 out of 5 stars Now out of date but perhaps helpful to some
Jay Robb's plan for weight loss is now outdated by better research. I've no doubt, however, that it was helpful to some people. If it works, why not use it? The recipes have the virute of being simple, everyday ones that are inexpensive yet nutritious. Worth having for the recipe collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I had hoped for..., June 6, 2010

I was hoping this was an actual COOK BOOK. There is too much information in it that is already covered in his other books. I wanted an actual COOK BOOK related specifically to his diet. There are very good recipes in this book. But it falls short of being an actual COOK BOOK. There are not enough recipes.

2.0 out of 5 stars The book is Incoherent and devoid of substance., July 21, 2008

example from page 22;"ketosis a radical state of fat burning that only Happens once all carbohydrate reserves are depleted and the body has no choice but to create and burn ketone bodies from available body fat and fat from foods in the diet. On The Fat Burning Diet program, carb-loading is utilized prior to going into ketosis, thus fat burning takes place." do you see the contradiction? Based on the above paragraph the during ketosis you'll be burning fat, if you are avoiding the ketosis by carb-loading then how the heck are you going to burn the fat? It is not explained any where. It's either ambiguous writing or just wrong concept. Either way is not a good news to the reader.
Also the recipes are plain lousy, example page 73 Grilled cheese Sandwich:
"Ingredients: 2 slices of 100% flourless no-salt sprouted grain bread, 2 oz of low fat cheddar cheese, 1 tsp of olive oil or butter. " this is un example of a carb-loading lunch. Who is he making fun of? The last time I had two slices of bread and piece of cheese for lunch I didn't call it a lunch. I called it an appetizer at best. So if you wanted to starve yourself then why in the world you'd be buying a cook book to show you how to prepare cheese and bread? lol,
Example of High-Carb side snack:
"Place a banana in your right hand, stem up. Grab top of the stem with you left hand, and peel downward until half the banana is exposed. Now take a bite, and enjoy!" Is it even funny to somebody?

It just seems like this is too difficult to follow and all the product you have to buy from the health food store is too much for me, I am going back to weight watchers
