5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Myth-ing, March 2, 2007

Sorry, couldn't resist ...

This series of books and long short stories is not for everyone, but for those who enjoy a make-believe world with a serious comical twist then this is the one.

I would recommend that whoever buys this, also buys (rents or borrows) the first book in the series as well. The stories build on each other and are more like a series of chapters in a much larger tale. Those who jump into the middle of the series will probably not understand what's going on and why Skeeve and Az do/react the way they do.

The stories are very light reading and can usually be finished in a couple of sittings (less if you're a faster reader). Although I would venture that the series is written for a target audience in their early teens, this does not mean that older people won't enjoy Aspin's unique style. I'm in my fifties and enjoy reading these books again and again. You don't need a degree to understand what's going on (and why), and the humor is quite ... well .... humorous.

Try the first book. If you like that one, the series only gets better from there (as I indicated, reading the stories in order is imperitive to understanding what occurs later ... unless you like frustration).

Cheerfully Recommended for ages 8 and up.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lot more Myth, March 21, 2007

This review is from: Robert Asprin's Myth Adventures Volume 2 (v. 2) (Hardcover)
I read most of these novels as a kid and the fact that they were reprinted in a nice, easy to read format was great. The fact that this book has some of the original artwork from the original series is a complete plus.

This book is a companion to the other Myth Aventures Volume. As such, as a new reader to the Myth world, I would not start here at all.

These stories were decent but not great. I thought the first volume had a lot more fun to it than this second volume. Towards the end of this novel, I felt like I was plodding along. The point of view changes to some of the more minor characters who talk ala Damon Runyon.

Overall, good stuff. Just that I think I got tired of the change of point of view. I'd recommend it but I think you've got to be a fan to get the most out of it.
