3.0 out of 5 stars Thanks for the Memories
Glad they reprinted the books, but sorry to say the printing company dropped the ball. In the book Myth-ion Improbable they completely misspelled Tananda's through the entire book. Just a small thing, but to those who read a lot (which I'm sure all of us reading these do) it can be annoying. Might as well reprint The Hobbit with the main character of *ildo.

Sorry, couldn't resist ...

This series of books and long short stories is not for everyone, but for those who enjoy a make-believe world with a serious comical twist then this is the one.

I would recommend that whoever buys this, also buys (rents or borrows) the first book in the series as well. The stories build on each other and are more like a series of chapters in a much larger tale. Those who jump into the middle of the series will probably not understand what's going on and why Skeeve and Az do/react the way they do.

The stories are very light reading and can usually be finished in a couple of sittings (less if you're a faster reader). Although I would venture that the series is written for a target audience in their early teens, this does not mean that older people won't enjoy Aspin's unique style. I'm in my fifties and enjoy reading these books again and again. You don't need a degree to understand what's going on (and why), and the humor is quite ... well .... humorous.

Try the first book. If you like that one, the series only gets better from there (as I indicated, reading the stories in order is imperitive to understanding what occurs later ... unless you like frustration).

Cheerfully Recommended for ages 8 and up.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lot more Myth, March 21, 2007

This review is from: Robert Asprin's Myth Adventures Volume 2 (v. 2) (Hardcover)
I read most of these novels as a kid and the fact that they were reprinted in a nice, easy to read format was great. The fact that this book has some of the original artwork from the original series is a complete plus.

This book is a companion to the other Myth Aventures Volume. As such, as a new reader to the Myth world, I would not start here at all.

These stories were decent but not great. I thought the first volume had a lot more fun to it than this second volume. Towards the end of this novel, I felt like I was plodding along. The point of view changes to some of the more minor characters who talk ala Damon Runyon.

Overall, good stuff. Just that I think I got tired of the change of point of view. I'd recommend it but I think you've got to be a fan to get the most out of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Stories, Many Mistakes, May 30, 2008
The hijinks of Skeeve and Aahz continue in this second compendium of Asprin's Myth Adventures series. The stories and dialogue are as I remember them with the latter carrying the former, which makes for brisk and fun pacing. I would give this a 3.5 rating due to numerous editing errors that got through printing; it was as if this was a rush job. Names and simple words are constantly misspelled throughout the entire collection. Was hiring a copy editor or conducting a spell check too demanding? In any case, if you can bypass the many minor errors, you'll find a delightful set of stories from the MYTH crew.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stories, October 27, 2010

I bought this set for my daughter and she absolutely loved them. She finished the entire volume 2 in under a week, and has since read it again. Perhaps it's not quite Harry Potter, but Myth Adventures is still a very creative set of books. Try them out.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just an extended lecture, January 4, 2008
This series started out as a humorous look at many stereotypes, but there was still some sort of a plot. But now it's pretty much just a long lecture on political correctness. All in all, I'd get these books from a library, read the still funny "quotes" at the beginning of each chapter, and then return it.

(please note that I'm not saying the message isn't a good one, but if I want to be lectured about how stereotypes hurt, I'll go to the self help section. I want to be entertained, that's why I'm buying fiction.)
