It had some good humor, and was well put together.
darkridr
It seriously could have taken a couple of dozen less pages, which would have been great to use for... 2. Bunny's family problems.
J. Whaley
The latest book was just as good as all of the previous ones and I nope Nye can keep them coming.

Jody Lynn Nye has taken over the reigns completely for Robert Lynn Asprin (he passed away four years ago), and I think she is a very talented writer. In this and the Dragon series, her friendship for Bob shines through, and plotting is getting better, IMO.

In this one, MYTH Inc is asked to help with an election that has dragged on for the past five years. (This would be compared to our recent Presidential election in the US, that only felt like it lasted for five years.) I only wish our politicians were as straightforward as the ones in the book. The story skewers the media, and their desire for spectacle over substance, but in a reserved way.

The characters finally feel like they have grown since the place they seemed stuck at since the mid 1980s, and there are threads for at least one other book at the end.

I'm so glad Jody Lynne Nye and Robert Aspirin had time enough to work together on this series. Nye stays the course as she navigates the Myth crowd through yet another zany adventure in the style Aspirin molded so many years ago. Thanks!

I like the MYTH series. I love the humor and the whimsy of the books. But the books are not like they were. They used to keep me reading. Now, I read for a few minutes, put it down, with no qualms.

The series has always been enjoyable but after a little transition time I think it is back to the level of the original works. In this book, the characters feel familiar but fresh, and there was a great balance of foreshadowing and plot twists.

Two minor annoyances (personal taste):

1. Mudslinging metaphor waaaaay too much. It seriously could have taken a couple of dozen less pages, which would have been great to use for...

2. Bunny's family problems. Wow, it must be a pretty big deal, but not even an ominous cliffhanger, just a "Meh, no big deal" and end story. Oh well, i guess in the next book that will get sorted, but it really felt epilog worthy, but just ended up seeming unfinished somehow.

Still well worth the read and it makes me happy to see the franchise in good hands.

I've been reading the adventures of Myth, Inc. with Skeeve going back to the first one that I bought at a SF convention in Kentucky (Robert Aspirin was there signing books). Jody Lynn Nye is masterful in her take on the world. Pervect! I had to reread a couple of the puns (I'm slow on that stuff sometimes). I loved the take on the election. A former political reporter, I saw a lot of fact behind her fiction. A great read.

Myth-Quoted (2012) is the nineteenth Fantasy novel in the Myth series, following Myth-Fortunes. The initial volume in this sequence is Another Fine Myth.

In the previous volume, Aahz got a visit by an Imp salesman and asked Skeeve to listen to the proposition. After several death threats, Skeeve and Aahz finally got the Imp to present the core of the deal. Samwise was having onsite accidents that cut into the construction schedule.

Skeeve and Aahz visited Aegis with Samwise. Their dimensional hop brought them into the dark interior of the tomb of Waycross. Getting out of the tomb was rather strenuous, but finally they all emerged into the bright and hot day.

The environment was much like the Bazaar on Deva. The natives mostly seemed to have animal heads and feet, but some looked like Klahds. On the way to his office, Samwise showed Aahz and Skeeve the shining white pyramid built by Diksen.

In his office, Samwise explained his prior experience and his brilliant financing scheme. He also renewed his sales pitch on memorial stones and hooked Aahz on taking a top stone. Aahz claimed that he wanted to leave a legacy for the future.

In this novel, Skeeve is a Klahd from the Klah dimension. He was an apprentice magician in Klah, but has grown in skills and reputation under Aahz. He had originally started M.Y.T.H., Inc., with a few friends.

Aahz is a Pervect from Perv. He is big, green, scaly and has four inch long teeth. He is a fearsome sight, but is also Skeeve's mentor and friend.

Bunny is also a Klahd.

This book was an enjoyable continuation of the Myth universe. I miss the creator of the series Mr Asprin. I started reading SF because his books. Phule's Company was the first book I ever read of his.

I greatly enjoyed the original stories by Asprin, but this re-visit is a failure. The same characters appear, but the tone and humor are just off-key and therefore off-putting. Don't waste your money.
