A man of God, September 10, 2009
This review is from: Robert Chapman: A Biography (Paperback)
This book describes a man who gave away his considerable monetary wealth and successful law practice for the sake of the gospel. While all Christians desire to live a Christ-like life, such is not easy. Robert Chapman (no relation of mine) was an example of Christ-likeness in practice. The great preacher, C.H.Spurgeon--a few years younger than Chapman--said that he was the saintliest man he ever knew. I found this book a challenge and encouragement to my own Christian life.
An excerpt from the last chapter:
Robert Chapman became famous for his exceptional love, grace, and truth. He became so well known in England that a letter from abroad was delivered correctly to him, addressed only to "R. C. Chapman, University of Love, England." He became famous as an apostle of love.'
Perhaps the only criticism I have would be the somewhat detailed record of people, places, and dates of Chapman's life. Maybe I was reading too much at a time, and became lost in the detail. But the book was hard to put down.
