1.0 out of 5 stars Bad science.
I bought this book and his 'Carnitine Miracle' book as well. Now that my cholesterol went up over 100 points in 6 months, I consider his books unreliable and potentially dangerous. Eat a balanced diet, exercise, and avoid the fads. That's my advice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick and painless nutrietion information, February 8, 2000
This review is from: Robert Crayhon's Nutrition Made Simple: A Comprehensive Guide to the Latest Findings in Optimal Nutrition (Paperback)
As a grad student, I didn't want to spend alot of time reading about nutrition. This book allows you to quickly skim the vitamin supplement guidelines, or read the entire book and learn a new approach to eating. Information is cited with scientific studies, so you know this isn't just his "philosophies." I am now taking what I've learned and have a whole new approach to nutrition and weight-loss. I have been a yo-yo dieter for years, and no longer have sugar or fastfood cravings. You'll learn that understanding the role of vitamins and minerals is really the key to living a healthier life. I understand now what I was doing wrong: too much carbohydrates and no protein, which was why I had no energy at the gym amongst other problems. Teaches the truth about saturated fats, why hydrogenated fats are bad, and about Omega-3/Omega-6 EFA's (flaxseed oil). Highly recommended. I've purchased 4 copies for family members.

5.0 out of 5 stars I WISH EVERYONE IN AMERICA WOULD READ THIS BOOK, October 19, 2000
By
This review is from: Robert Crayhon's Nutrition Made Simple: A Comprehensive Guide to the Latest Findings in Optimal Nutrition (Paperback)
In the late 70's, I read Nathan Pritikin's books and adopted his guidelines. Coming from the typical junk food diet, it was a major step in the right direction towards good nutrition. Last November, I read Robert Crayhon's Nutrition Made Simple and adjusted my diet to comply with his guidelines where it disagreed with Pritikin. It has been the next major step for me in the direction of eating healthy. By following the guidelines in Crayhon's book, I lost 20 lbs without even trying and without going hungry (I'm 5'9'' and went from 200 lbs to 180 lbs). I attribute this to a fact pointed out in Crayhon's book that when a person eats highly nutritious food, his body doesn't need or want to eat as much as when eating typical American junk food. Plus the body's got the nutrients it needs to burn the excess fat. This book lives up to its title -- it takes a complex (and heretofor confusing for me) subject and makes it easy to understand. To me it clears up so much deception fed to us (pardon the pun) by the American media and food processing industry. I think everyone in America needs to read this book and put it into practice. It would probably bankrupt the health care industry because so many sick people would get well naturally. I wish I had known and put into practice what this book explains years ago. Unfortunately it took hypoglycemia and a host of other maladies to make me give up the typical American diet (by which I mean fast food, highly refined and processed food, long shelf life foods, etc). The only thing I did not like about this book is that it did not have a lot of material on herbs. (Anyone know of a good book on herbs?) And the index at the back of the book is rather poor. I hope Crayhon comes out with an updated version soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best reading on current and factual info on nutrition!, December 4, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Robert Crayhon's Nutrition Made Simple: A Comprehensive Guide to the Latest Findings in Optimal Nutrition (Paperback)
I have been searching everywhere for good book on all the basics of nutrition, and Robert Crayhon's Nutrition Made Simple is by far the most exciting one I have ever read. There is a lot of conflicting information on nutrition and supplements, and I'm glad to finally have a book that is backed up by over 500 solid scientific references! I use Nutrition Made Simple in my nutrition practice as a reference book for optimal supplement dosages, use of healing Fatty Acids, and to help treat a variety of common ailments such as heart disease, digestion, skin health, immune system strength, and PMS. This book formed the backbone of my nutrition knowledge and was the motivating factor which allowed me to pursue a career in nutrition. I recommend this book to both health professionals and the general public.

If you are looking for one book to give you all the basics of nutrition, this is it! It is easy to read, and I like the fact that the author documented everything he said--500 or so references in the back! Impressive. I have bought many copies for friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book to Unlearn All the Nutrional Misinformation Out There!, August 7, 2006
This review is from: Robert Crayhon's Nutrition Made Simple: A Comprehensive Guide to the Latest Findings in Optimal Nutrition (Paperback)
Robert Crayhon has done as excellent job in this book. Each chapter is dedicated to a specific nutrtional subject, so you can flip around in this book, as is appropriate for your needs. However, I recommend reading it in its entirety because he is right on with accurate nutritional information. This will help you get to the real truths on how to eat healthier and help you to be able to decipher reality from all the "nutritional noise" out there. Buy it for a life-long reference book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Robert Crayhon's Nutrition Made Simple, September 12, 2005
This review is from: Robert Crayhon's Nutrition Made Simple: A Comprehensive Guide to the Latest Findings in Optimal Nutrition (Paperback)
My wife owned this book and I read it several years ago then again recently. I have read many diet and nutrition books over the years and I consider this one of the best. It is well written and informative as can be. I am giving several copies away to co-workers because I want them to benefit from it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book about REAL nutrition that is both interesting & funny, February 6, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Robert Crayhon's Nutrition Made Simple: A Comprehensive Guide to the Latest Findings in Optimal Nutrition (Paperback)
This book keeps your attention through facts and humor. It is a great book for people just starting to test the waters of nutrition. Those who want to learn more about REAL nutrition, not the "nutrition" we so often learn about through advertising, will certainly benefit from the information in this book. I especially liked the section on supplements. Crahyon explains each vitamin and mineral and the importance of each in our diet. Reading this section is a great way to check if the vitamins you are taking are balanced.
