This review is from: Robert Jordan: A Reader's Checklist and Reference Guide (Paperback)
As a very big fan of Robert Jordan's, here are some of my thoughts on this books. ... First off: this book is NOT authorized by Jordan, his agents, or Tor Books. It's an unathorized book about him and his works.

As far as content: there's little to nothing in here at all. If you frequent any of the popular fan sites out there, then there is nothing new here at all. They manage to spell words correctly, but seem to miss a lot of major points. The series is described something along the lines of: "An epic fantasy with castles, dragons, and the forces of evil from the underworld." ...

About the only thing interesting in here is that it gives you a nice overview of Jordan's work with the Conan series. If you are a Wheel of Time fan (which I bet most people reading this are), then you *might* learn something about his Conan books.

The biography they give for Jordan is the standard stuff you hear anywhere else. It seems that the authors of this book simply logged onto any one of the hundreds of ... websites and copied what was there.

Lastly, the checklist itself is really just a list of his books. You can rate the books yourself and write comments in there if you like. Not something I would personally use, but who knows...maybe you are interested in that.

The bottom line is this: unless you are somebody who is collecting Robert Jordan or Wheel of Time merchandise, I would skip this. ...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, November 14, 2000

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Robert Jordan: A Reader's Checklist and Reference Guide (Paperback)
When I ordered this book I expected something similar to the book "The World Of Robert Jordan's The Wheel Of Time". Instead it turned out that this is a series of plot synopses on all of Robert Jordan's writen works. Inadequate synopses at that, never more than one page long. When summarizing books that are on average 800 pages long it would seem that one could come up with at least two pages(maybe even three!) of information about the plot in the novel. The title of this book labels it "A Reader's Checklist And Reference Guide". This book could more accurately be called "A Young Reader's Book of Checklists About Books Robert Jordan has written." This is not a book that is targeted towards anyone who is reading Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series from an adult perspective. Although this may be a neat book for a young reader to have if they are interested in making checklists about the Robert Jordan Books they have read. In my opinion anyone who has read the series could use a note pad to make not only better chacklists but better synopses. If you want a companion book to the wheel of time series do your self a favor and do not waste your time with this book. Instead buy "The World of Robert Jordan's The Wheel Of Time" written by Robert Jordan and Teresa Patterson.
