5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for any true comedy fan
So glad to find this on Amazon! As a teen, my friends and I watched the entire series. We still laugh about it and ocassionally repeat lines from the show. There is a lot of talent packed into this program. Many of his "Partners In Crime" were virtually unheard of when the special aired on HBO back in the 80's. An easy way to own footage of today's top sitcom and movie...

2.0 out of 5 stars ORIGINAL PROGRAM ON HBO WAS BETTER-A SHAME THAT SOME GOOD COMEDY WAS CUT OR EDITED OUT

I remember watching Robert Townsend and His Partners In Crime back in the 80's on HBO. The Volume 1 DVD has some of the comedy items I remember, but it has unfortunately been edited or cut up and is not like the original was. One skit I recall in particular that was one of the funniest things I have seen to date was called "Farters Anonymous", where people confess that they are hooked and addicted, but the center helped them. As they continue, you realize they are talking about a rather large flatulance problem that they have overcome. At the end, several members of this group hold candles say their first name and admit they are a "farter" or they "poot", until one fellow admits that he just ate a "big old can of beans". The group immedately blows out the candles as a 1-800-555-POOT number flashes across the screen. This item is not in this DVD, which I found very dissapointing. However, I did enjoy watching the black version of "Dynasty" again and some of the stand up comedians were pretty funny. To sum it all up in a nutshell, I was not particularly thrilled with Volume 1 of Partners In Crime. It is rather blase. I have not watched Volumes 2 and 3 as yet, but hope that some of the missing comedy items I remember are included.

There is a lot of talent packed into this program. Many of his "Partners In Crime" were virtually unheard of when the special aired on HBO back in the 80's. An easy way to own footage of today's top sitcom and movie comedians before they made it big. Check out their style and see what they were like before blowing up. If you're a true fan of comedy, then this dvd is for you. This will no doubt become a classic (it already is in my book).

3.0 out of 5 stars I love it but there is a skit missing, November 14, 2009

I remember seeing this in the late 80's when I was a tween but the skit that's missing 1-800-POOP. They should of had it on here, because I was watching this with my family and we were looking for it. But we still had a lot of laughs especially seeing "The Bold, The Black, The Beautiful"

5.0 out of 5 stars Duh!, it is the original!, August 19, 2008
This review is from: Robert Townsend: Partners in Crime, Vol. 3 (DVD)
My first memory of Tommy Davidson and Robin Harris-this is why these are classics!! Check out Bobby Brown before crack!
Don't play, if you are my age(if you remember these episodes, you my age) and seriously disappointed with the crap wanna be comedy that is on TV today, collect you Robert Townsend and Def Comedy Jam before they disappear. You will crack up all over again and remember where you seen the top comics first! HBO as always been revolutionary, Robert did just that with his Partners in Crime. GET IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic!, August 17, 2005

I taped (put a small stereo to the tv and made an AUDIO tape) of this routine when it aired on HBO when I was young because I loved it so much. The range and talent in this production is rarely seen all together. I've been searching for the DVD and I am so happy to have finally found it. Paul Mooney we love you!

2.0 out of 5 stars Comedy on the cutting floor, August 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Partners In CrimeJust got Volume I and did not get the comedians I saw back in the 80's.
Barry Diamond, one of the funniest in the first HBO special was cut out. What a loss.
Robbin from Chicago was also out from Babe's kids fame. He died too early and now he is not on the DVD.
The comedy I remember must be on the cutting floor.
Partners In Crime

If you liked the HBO special, heres a chance to collect and watch it again. Vol.2 was the second and was pretty good. Fans get them while they last.

This seemed a lot funnier 20 years ago. The best thing about this was Franklin Ajaye. Other than that, blah.

I had been looking for routine from Tommy Davidson that I had remembered from years ago. I was so happy to find out that it was on this dvd because I was just ordering Robert Townsend for nostalgic purposes. Robin Harris also debuts his "be be kids " routine. 4 stars because the stand ups r funny, the skits are not.

I bought this DVD for my brother, and he seemed to be extremely happy with the DVD. Thank you for sending the product quickly and making sure the DVD was unharmed in transit.
