After recently taking on the responsibility for raising my two boys (3 and 9 years old), I found that my living arrangements weren't going to work. My parents kindly decided to help out by letting me build an apartment in their basement. The Unison 2-In-1 underlayment was the perfect solution for breaking direct contact with the concrete. I used it not only under the laminate flooring, but under the free-floating vinyl in the bathroom and kitchen too. Not only does it make bare feet in the bathroom reasonably comfortable, it also softened the surface considerably. And while the laminate floors require socks at a minimum, they are also less chilly than they should be.

We had originally been thinking about furring strips with narrow cavities and more substantive insulation, but with only 81" in the highest areas and considerably less under the ducts (especially with drywall cladding), we realized we would need every inch possible. This material was the perfect solution. While a little more insulation might have been nice, there is no way we could have found better insulation at 3/16th of an inch. And after discovering just how comfortable the vinyl floors are with this underneath, I will never lay another vinyl floor without it. It really makes for a very nice combination of softening the surface and making it quite a bit warmer - very efficiently reflecting the heat from your feet, right back through the heavy vinyl surface.

And of course the price is unbeatable. I started this project having to buy two rolls from Home Depot - at $25.95 per roll. I bought the last four rolls here on Amazon for $14.95 per roll. With Amazon prime my shipping was free and they were here in just a couple of days. It seems odd to buy building materials online and indeed for many materials it really isn't cost effective, but I have learned to check here first, because you never know.

Used this product underneath a Shaw Laminate on a concrete floor in the basement. Easy to use and provides good vapor barrier and cushion. The price on Amazon $14.99 for 100 square foot is much cheaper than Home Depot. This is a good quality product and is much better compared to the ones which I see in other flooring stores.

Well, I bought this because it was cheap and I really didnt see the point and going for the "Top Notch" Red one. My laminate floor came out good, quiet when walked on even with shoes. No hollow sound very easy yo lay, doesnt slide all over the place. I would purchase this again.

Product arrived ahead of its' stated delivery date. Was almost too well wrapped. It would have survived a hurricane. Product was as described, of good quality, and had an adhesive strip for joining the sections...( didn't see that in the description???). Best of all, it was half the price of an almost identcal product at local big box DIY stores.

I bought my laminate flooring and I bought this underlayment from The Home Depot for $25 a roll!!! Went on Amazon and found the exact same product for $15.99 a roll. It is a great product that is easy to install and has the convenient adhesive strip to seal out any moisture!

This is a great product. Just finished a floor with it and the floor doesn't squeak or creak. It feels like it should. I couldn't see spending all that money for the department store product... it adds up fast! I used duct tape on the seams, the clear plastic folds looked too flimsy for me. Other than that, no complaints. This is a good cheap basic underlayment.

If you are a perfectionist, or lay floors for those who are...
--- only the high priced laminate floors are truly workable with tight seams because their interlocking systems are good and their underlayment is attached to the plank.

Separate underlayment is required for the medium-lower priced HPLs,

--- these underlayment products (regardless of brand) all "wave" when laid down...unless you buy the heavy duty, thick, sound deadening acoustic stuff....and tape the seams.

What happens with this underlayment and other brands?

Cheap hardboard interlock mechanisms + wave underlayment = trouble in jointing.

If you don't care about visible joints, full speed ahead.

I installed the laminate over this about 2 months ago and I'm seeing separation and settling from the boards. I'm pretty sure it's not expansion due to moisture, so I guess this is doing its job along with the underlayment for a moisture barrier, but I think this is a little unevenly 'squishy' along the seams. It's still a great deal and the floor sounds fine, not hollow. I'd recommend people pay close attention to the edges when joining strips of this.
