Gr. 3-6, younger for reading aloud. Robi Dobi is the sort of elephant that we could all use now and again: whenever he comes across strangers in need, he helps them as if they were friends. First, he rescues Kabbi, a little mouse painted orange by an evil snake-witch, from a downpour. Robi then offers aid to Maya Wishkaya, a dancing butterfly who has broken her wing and been abandoned by her butterfly precision drill corps. A parrot princess abducted by panthers rounds out the cast of vulnerable animals. By helping them to help themselves, Robi saves them all. The adventures, clever and often quite funny, and the irrepressible orange mouse will appeal to young readers, as will the fast-paced storytelling. Amanda Hall's illustrations, both black-and-white and color, add humor and life to this fun romp through the jungle. John Green

Kids ages 6-10 will find Robi Dobi an enchanting read, recounting the adventures of an Indian elephant. Amanda Hall's color and black and white drawings accent a fun set of adventures revolving around the elephant and his friends.
