The authors begin by telling the old romantic story that we all know - England in the 12th century. Richard the Lionheart in Palestine on a crusade, government in the hands of King John, Robin Hood outlawed in Sherwood Forest with a valiant band of followers poursued by the Sheriff of Nottingham. Then they begin their quest for the "real" Robin, a story that eventually revealed that Robin was a man who lived two centuries later and led a peasants revolt from Wakefiled.

This review is from: Robin Hood: The Man Behind the Myth (Hardcover)
I enjoyed reading this book. I felt that the authors could have gone into more detail than what they had, but they perhaps did not have any more to say on the subject . . . . But how can you, when there is not much evidence available? I do feel that there is a really good case for a Robin Hood of the 1300's (rather than the 1100's or even 1200's), and I think the authors presented their case quite well, even if I were a little hesitant about accepting the earlier hero's for possible usage of the legend, for all fingers really do seem to point to the 1300's ~ but I know how shaky the ground really is! Over all, the book was highly readable, and it didn't take me long to devour its pages! Very enjoyable! . . . . Come on, let's keep the Swashbuckling alive, shall we?
