Book Description

“Is it any wonder I became a bank robber?”
But she never dreamed she’d fall in love . . .

Wealthy high school student Robin McArthur thinks she has it all figured out when it comes to bilking her work-a-holic dad for guilt money as a substitute for his genuine affection. Until one day he suffers a stroke at his law office, and she learns the brutal truth—
They’re broke.
Her stepmom has skipped the country.
And everyone from bankers to bookies has lined up in her dad’s hospital room to collect on the millions he’s racked up in debt.

Panicked and desperate, Robin figures she has two choices: either surrender to the pestering caseworker and live in a skanky foster home, or take a chance and sneak her dad out of the hospital to make a run for it. Little does she know that stealing a car and hitting the road means that before the day is through, she will rob her first bank.

Now an outlaw, Robin finds a backwoods trailer park to hide her dad from authorities where she encounters Creek, a bad-boy in crime who first steals her money and then steals her heart. The two of them embark on a round of increasingly dangerous heists to provide for their motley trailer park neighbors. But what Robin hadn’t counted on is the way these hardscrabble people begin to embrace her and become the first real family she’s ever known. And along the way, worldly-wise Creek teaches her how to develop a genuine relationship with her dad based on the hard truths of their lives instead of his past lies. As Robin and Creek’s criminal journey forces them to make gut-wrenching choices, they soon begin to discover that people are more precious than pocketbooks, and true love means opening your heart to the kinds of treasures money can’t buy.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"A riveting, young adult adventure with a big heart that will keep you tearing through the pages!" -Laura Howard, USA TODAY Bestselling Author

"I loved this book. The characters are quirky, fun...If this book is made into a movie I would definitely watch it. I loved all the thoughts that go on in Robin's mind. I also loved Creek: his loving and caring character. The way he protects everyone makes him a real hero, even if he does it in a not-so-legal way. Overall, the story is great and the characters are well-developed." -Lorena Sanqui, Readers' Favorite Book Review

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Magical Gem to love! July 21, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Can an emotionally neglected, self-centered little rich girl find happiness and purpose among a ragtag community of misfits who live “off the grid” of the “normal” world? Get ready for a unique trip into a world filled with humor, quirky characters, loyalty, trust, love and more secrets than you can divine in a crystal ball. Robin in the Hood by Diane J. Reed is another sparkly gem in the world of books that took me by surprise from page one!

Robin is the clichéd little rich girl, from her elite credit cards to an exclusive boarding school, but what she needs is to feel loved. When her father’s carefully built empire comes crashing down and he suffers a stroke, suddenly they are on the run and all signs point toward Turtle Shores, a rundown trailer park filled with some of the most unique and crazy characters Robin has ever looked down her nose at. Then along comes Creek, a modern day Robin Hood who looks out for everyone in this unusual “family” and there is magic in their touch.

As Robin learns to recognize what “family” means and sees how this group watches out for each other, she morphs from a tightly closed, cocoon into a shimmering butterfly, spreading its wings to help those around her. But are there secrets to be unveiled that will further rock her world? Will she learn more about the mother she hardly knew? What about her father’s past? Who is she? What is her destiny?

Diane J. Reed has put her own magical stamp on this touching, yet fast-paced coming of age tale! If you don’t fall in love with the entire gang at Turtle Shores and the adventures and magic that permeates each page, you may need to check if you are breathing! Ms.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delighful and Imaginative Story! December 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Was one of those you look forward to reading when you can finally sit down to relax. D Reed has a way of vividly capturing the spirit of individuals, and her characters have such charm and depth. Her exquisite humor pops up when leat expected! I found myself smiling and then laughing quite frequently. Last but not least, this book is filled with stories about real people and their struggles, but ultimately their connection to each other and its importance becomes quite evident. Gift yourself or someone else with this uplifting book! Great for teens and adults.

5.0 out of 5 stars fast-paced! June 17, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I consider my life pretty mundane, and when I find a book that captures and holds my attention, it is magical! This book did just that. It is well written with believable characters that pull at your heart strings. Robin and Creek may be teen-agers, but their story will appeal to all ages. Diane J. Reed infuses their adventures with humor and wisdom and makes them come alive. I would recommend this book to any one who wants to believe in true love and a little magic!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best YA book I have read since THE HUNGER GAMES February 9, 2013
Format:Paperback
This book is filled with well defined characters that you can't help but love! Each one is so vivid and real! The setting is also so imaginative and, as a reader, I wanted to be right there with Granny Tinker, Brandi and Robin and the description of Lorraine's cooking drove me to the fridge. If it says anything, I read this book in a day, stopping only to eat, etc...I couldn't put it down. As an avid reader and a writer myself, I loved this book and would recommend it to young adults and adults alike. The flow of the storyline, the conflicts and the many bits of mayhem including explosions, jello and geese will make any reader not want to leave the world of Robin---in the Hood. A total success of a YA book. Congrats to Diane Reed for capturing my attention and not wanting to leave Bender Lake. What a great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars #What a captivating and magical read! June 23, 2014
By Kawehi
Format:Kindle Edition
#What a captivating and magical read! Definitely a timeless adventure filled with mystery, intrigue, enchantment, and life’s ever growing lessons!#

Robin McArthur is a girl who on the outside seems like could want nothing more. She has looks, wealth, privilege, and status; everything a young woman could hope for. That is, in retrospect, to what she really and truly wants but lacks: love.

But….what happens when that is all taken away from her? Left with no money and debt collectors knocking on her door, Robin and her dad go on the run and slowly by slowly Robin feels herself doing the unexpected to survive: lying, stealing, and deceiving to stay afloat.

Now at a crossroads, fates steps in and she meets Creek, another lost soul with a criminal track but “a heart of gold.” Robin bonds with Creek and learns the importance of love, family, and that some of the most precious things in life can’t be measured in money.

Which brings me back to…
What about her major debt problem to clear up?

Well, once again, here’s where Creek steps in. Along with Robin, they stage a series of bank robberies and slowly gain back the money to put them in the green.

Only, making up the money that is owed becomes just a part of the problem. When trouble comes lurking its way and Robin finds herself slipping only deeper into the insurmountable. Will she get caught?

Will Robin ever get the chance in regaining a “normal” life? Will her father’s past indiscretions be solved? And what about Creek? How will things turn out for the teen that’d been not so long ago on the wrong side of the tracks but not so different from her after all?

Read and you will find out!
