5.0 out of 5 stars I can't believe...
the negative reviews for this score. It's one of the best I've ever heard, and the main theme sends chills up and down my spine. Many people must agree or else ESPN wouldn't repeatedly use the song for dramatic effect. Maybe the songs are "derivative" but I really don't care, it's great music to my ears and to the ears of many others.

2.0 out of 5 stars An Exceedingly Poor Composition for an Uneven Film.
"Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," a somewhat bloated dark version of the classic tale, was in need of a great soundtrack. Exciting musical cues can generally go a long way in supporting the average epic picture.

Kamen didn't deliver.

What we have here is a false, sentimental score, in which every note is so contrived it makes one cringe. Even Roger...

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect medieval mood music, January 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (Audio CD)
I have used my tape of the soundtrack until I wore it out! It is perfect background music to help establish a "medieval" world for a writer. Additionally, "Everything I do, I do for you" is a hauntingly beautiful love song. If you write historicals, especially medieval England or anytime in Scottish Highlands you NEED this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very emotional music, July 23, 2000

When this movie came out, I was blown away by the soundtrack. I absolutely loved the emotion that poured through Michael Kamen's work.

I bought the soundtrack and haven't been disappointed since. Each piece has a decidedly Rennaisance feel to it, from the rescue during the Crusades to the horse-chase between Robin Hood and the Sheriff's cousin.

Even Bryan Adams' "Everything I Do (I do it for you)" has a catchy sound. It's nice to know that some music producers will leave the long version of the song intact on the soundtrack instead of cutting it. And, to my surprise, I was intrigued by "Wild Times," the last song on the CD. It has a lilting, haunting sound, and easily fits in with the rest of the music.

The music in this CD is catchy and creates an atmosphere akin to Robin Hood's day. If you close your eyes, you might just imagine yourself right there.

5.0 out of 5 stars intriguing, October 31, 1999

I love the movie which might have an effect on my love for the soundtrack. Track 1 is by far my favorite. It whips the listener away to another time and place. It charges confidence as well. I listen to it before giving speeches and always feel stronger. It's amazing what this cd can do besides please the ears.

I believe this to be be one of Michael Kamen's better scores. It has a few faults, but overall is a very good score. I believe the best song to be Track 6.

Everyone who purchased the titanic soundtrack CD should consider this a must. Although its been released a couple of years ago, there is something special about this CD. You can listen to it over and over and each time you notice a different tone, a different rhythm. This is a CD that can move your feelings from head to toe. M KAMEN is among the best composers the movie industry has ever witnessed. get this right now and you wont get disappointed(trust me!).

5.0 out of 5 stars You've got to listen to this!, January 8, 2000
This review is from: Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (Audio CD)
Michael Kamen proves his abilities again in this soundtrack. While track 1 certainly sweeps you off your feet with charismatic and charging tunes from the brass sections of the symphony he shows his versatility with haunting flute and string meledies that incorporate the tune from Bryan Adam's Everything I Do(I Do It For You). Other tunes include more period appropriate meledies. However, my favorite is track 8 which is the most complex and emotion packed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Soundtrack., June 22, 1998

This soundtrack is a truly classic soundtrack. The way the two themes are redone in different ways in the different tracks is masterful. The first track especially shows the intensity and beauty that is evident in the whole CD. The only drawback to this CD is several mistakes made by the trumpets and french horns, most notably in track 8. These, however, are few and far between. It is certainly one of my favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true classic, March 22, 2003

This is one of Michael Kamen's best. It is adventurous, romantic, and fun all rolled into one. The main theme titled "Overture" is a classic main theme that actually is the music for the Morgan Creek pictures logo. It is big and colossal with wonderous brass fanfares and top notch string performances. The score contains lots of variations of this theme throughout. "Sir Guy of Gisborne" contains light and bouncy woodwinds, leading to "The Escape to Sherwood" with quotes from the main theme with some great percussion work. "Little John" is a slightly amusing cue, leading to "The Band in the Forest", which is a militaristic like march. "The Sheriff and His Witch" is dark and ominous in nature. "Marian", as well as "Marian at the Waterfall" contain the beautiful romantic theme played mainly on flutes and gentle strings with a harp. It is also the melody in the outstanding Bryan Adams song heard toward the end. "The Abduction and the Final Battle at the Gallows" starts out with ominous sounding strings and a piccolo, and a few guitars, leading to a rumbling percussion solo, finally heading toward an exciting action cue with powerful horn sounds and top notch brass fanfares. "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" is one of my favorite songs and hit the top of the charts years ago and still is a top requested song because it is that good. "Wild Times" is a decent song performed by Jeff Lange, but not even close to how good the other song is. This is a highly recommended soundtrack if you haven't guessed by now.

5.0 out of 5 stars a music fan, May 22, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (Audio CD)
The legendary music that accompanies Robin Hood certainly deserves much praise, as composer Michael Kamen created themes that forever exist in our hearts. The films main theme, probably one of the most recognizable in history, remarkably captures much of the adventure-based film's spirit, not to mention the various other themes in Maid Marian, Little John and his Band in the Forrest, and the Abduction and the Final Battle at the Gallows, where Kamen's true abilities are demonstrated. The perfect blend of romance and action is artfully shown in this score, which will certainly remain rather prized for its innovative new instrumentation and orchestration-the basis for much modern film music.
