5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta love Robin the Morgan Horse!, March 29, 2006
This review is from: Robin: The Lovable Morgan Horse (Morgan Horse Series) (The Morgan Horse Series) (Paperback)
Ellen Feld zooms me back to my childhood and memories of riding with my friends. Yep, we did some crazy things with our horses...and so many times it was a result of peer pressure. Our horses, like the Morgan horse Robin, seemed to know better and were there to help teach us so many valuable lessons. Ellen's story takes hold of this reality and addresses it with a mature hand and detail that floods the senses with the smell of horses and leather, the sounds of hoofbeats and laughter, the sight of green grass and wonderful Morgan horseflesh, the feel of the reins and a freshly-curried coat, and the sheer bliss of spending time with horses and friends. I have to wait (somewhat impatiently) while my son finishes each new book that Ellen writes!

Once again Ellen is right on the mark when it comes to a believable story with the delicious overtones of whimsy and fantasy that horses conjure up in all of us. All of Ellen's books are worthy additions to any library of children's classics, and are a recommended read for all ages and genders. We await more additions to the trusty list!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just keeps getting better, March 29, 2006
This review is from: Robin: The Lovable Morgan Horse (Morgan Horse Series) (The Morgan Horse Series) (Paperback)
As an adult Morgan horse owner I found myself transported back to the days of my youth when every climb on a horse was an adventure. Ellen Feld has captured that youthful pleasure in knowing and having a horse friend. A great book for youngsters but just as enjoyable for us older horse crazy girls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for the outdoors kid, March 29, 2006
This review is from: Robin: The Lovable Morgan Horse (Morgan Horse Series) (The Morgan Horse Series) (Paperback)
Well-written and uncharacteristically down-to-earth, "Robin" is another in a fine series of books by Ellen Feld. The story tells a wonderful coming of age story for girls, that begins with a challenging experience and leads to a successful outcome. This is a great book for all ages, with a positive message.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for horse lovers, March 13, 2006
This review is from: Robin: The Lovable Morgan Horse (Morgan Horse Series) (The Morgan Horse Series) (Paperback)
Like many pre-teens, I was horse-crazy as an adolescent. I loved horses, wanted a horse, and read every horse book I could find: Marguerite Henry, Black Beauty, and the Black Stallion books. I wish that Ellen Feld's Morgan Horse series had been available back then; I would have loved them. And judging by the fact that the series has twice won the prestigious Children's Choices award, lots of children do love them.

The newest book in the series is Robin: The Lovable Morgan Horse. In Robin, novice rider Karen Greene is goaded by other kids into riding a spirited horse that she can't handle. A terrible riding accident occurs, and after months of recovery Karen still has nightmares about it. She is afraid to ride again, but with the help of her gentle Morgan horse Robin, and the encouragement of Heather and other characters from the earlier books, Karen gradually overcomes her fears and faces challenges that test her courage and determination.

Ellen Feld's love of horses comes through on every page, drawing the reader into the world of horse ownership. The horses are real horses, with real personalities - each one different - and horse-loving tweens will fall for them in a big way. The story has just enough excitement to keep it interesting, without being overly frightening or suspenseful. The Morgan Horse Series would be a great addition to a school library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ellen Feld's Morgan Horse series continues to enchant the reader, April 1, 2006

This review is from: Robin: The Lovable Morgan Horse (Morgan Horse Series) (The Morgan Horse Series) (Paperback)
All I can say is, I wish I were a teenage girl again, because this series would have been on my bookshelf right up there with the Black Stallion series, the "Flicka" series, Marguerite Henry, and all the other horse books that were close to my heart. I recommend starting with "Blackjack" and reading the series through in order, as you can see the characters, both human and equine, grow and learn, and new characters add a new dimension, just as they do in real life. The best part is, as I can testify as an owner of 5 Morgans, the equine episodes in the books are realistic. Morgans really ARE like the horses in the books. And as a mother of 3 teenage girls in the past, I can also testify that the girls in the books are very much like the adolescent girls that filled my house all those years ago. Even though I am WELL beyond my teenage years, I can't wait for the next book in the series - I hope it is as exciting and uplifting as "Robin". Knowing this series, I am sure it will be!

5.0 out of 5 stars Allbooks Review, January 31, 2006
This review is from: Robin: The Lovable Morgan Horse (Morgan Horse Series) (The Morgan Horse Series) (Paperback)
Horse-centered adventures involving a skunk, a sleigh, a show, and a scary storm will delight the readers of this book, the fourth in Ellen Feld's "Morgan Horse" series.

It opens with a nightmare-inducing accident: When Karen rides the energetic but anxious Comet she doesn't have the experience to handle him, and a long hospital stay is the result. Will she ever again dare to ride Robin, her sweet and slightly lazy Morgan Horse? As the story unfolds, it tells of new friendships, new challenges, and the slow return of confidence.

Aiding Karen's recovery are some memorable characters. There's Chauncy, a wise and caring horse lover; Heather, a patient and supportive friend; and Champ, a seriously cute Dachshund puppy. You're quickly drawn into the story and find yourself willing Karen to overcome her fears and to rediscover the joy of riding.

Ellen Feld has been writing about horses for some fifteen years, and riding since she was a child. Throughout the book her knowledge and love of horses, especially Morgan Horses, is evident, and her careful research has ensured that the veterinary and other details are accurate. Six beautiful drawings enhance the lively text; my favourite shows Chauncy driving the spunky miniature horse Rerun at the Fall Finale Horse Show, while Karen and her friends look on admiringly.

This engaging story will be greatly enjoyed both by experienced riders (especially girls) and by those who dream of one day heading out on the trails or into the show ring with a horse of their own.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Robin: The Lovable Morgan Horse (Morgan Horse Series) (The Morgan Horse Series) (Paperback)
This is a great book. The first chapter just drew me in; I never wanted to put it down. It was exiting and descriptive at the same time. I learned that Morgan horses understand their surroundings and can perceive whether they are safe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Robin by Ellen Feld, December 13, 2011
This review is from: Robin: The Lovable Morgan Horse (Morgan Horse Series) (The Morgan Horse Series) (Paperback)
"Robin" is one of the most special books I've ever read. Almost all horse lovers have had their share of bumps and bruises while others have had those unfortunate traumatic experiences that causes us to lose all confidence and hope in riding. "Robin" is a book about friendship and the bond between a girl and her Morgan and how those two things can work to heal any scar. Not even a year ago, I fell from my Morgan mare and broke two ankle bones and one leg bone. This story really made me reflect on how my own Morgan played a vital role in my recovery by taking it slow and putting up with my lack of confidence and loss of riding ability when I first hopped back in the saddle. One of the things I love about Ellen Feld's Morgan horse series is that each of the books features a Morgan with a completely different personality and different likes and dislikes from the Morgans in the other books. Ellen did an excellent job at portraying the intelligence of the Morgan and how every horse is special.
