4.0 out of 5 stars Robo Laser for Framing
I have been using the Robo Laser for one week for a 2 story framing job. The Tool is very easy to use, and much more accurate and faster than a hose water level for this type of work. We have put it to use for a variety of tasks, and it performs them with ease. Really the only complaint that I have is that the beam is 1/4" tall, and is sometimes hard to discern...

1.0 out of 5 stars Non precision laser
This unit will be ok if you are using it for distances under 15 feet. It is made in China to very low tolerances. Mine went out of calibration a few weeks after receiving it and the calibration adjuster did not have enough range to pull it back in. It remains 1.5 inches out of level at 100 feet but is ok for very short distances. Remember you get what you pay for - and...

An improvement might be to orient the beam so that its lentgth is horizontal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't know how I lived without it!, March 18, 2000
This review is from: RoboToolz RT-7210-1 RoboLaser 1/8-Inch at 100-Feet Self-Leveling Interior Point Laser with Remote (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have had my Robo Laser for only a few days now and already I don't know how I lived without it. It took only minutes to learn how to use it and right away I was saving the company I work for money by doing a job that once took two people to do. I am a foreman for a brick laying company and Robo Laser's first job was to help me lay out brick courseing. Just to be sure I could trust it's accuracy the first time,I checked my marks with an auto-level. It was perfect. I had no problem seeing the laser beam outside and the self-leveling feature made things quick and easy. Although I used a tripod the fact that you can sit it on almost anything as a base makes the leveling possibilities even greater. For anybody who wants a great laser at an unbelievable price this is the tool for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars you can calibrate Robolaser yourself!, April 10, 2000
This review is from: RoboToolz RT-7210-1 RoboLaser 1/8-Inch at 100-Feet Self-Leveling Interior Point Laser with Remote (Tools & Home Improvement)
You can calibrate this product yourself using the instructionmanual. One afternoon I was setting form boards and it was knockedover while mounted on my tri-pod. The instruction manual is pretty easy to follow, I calibrated it in about 10 minutes and was pretty pleased that there was no "down-time" I didn't have to send it back to the factory. I've been a general building contractor for 21 years and own over $18,000.00 worth of tools. When I see a tool that can save me time/money I buy it (since....in construction TIME is MONEY). I bought my Robolaser 14 months ago and by far it's one of the best tools for the money I have purchased in many years. It is easy to set-up and I can perform tasks by myself that took two people before. I highly recommend Robolaser for price/quality/accuracy. END

5.0 out of 5 stars Way Easy!!!, April 16, 2001

Bought it anyway even after reading the negative reviews, figured on returning it if not happy, It's a keeper! In one week I have layed out form work for a 22 x 40 addition with no help in 1 day. Have started a 14 x 67 patio cover using massive timbers. No need for the old idiot stick with this product. The general contractor didn't believe this cheap laser was accurate, so he pulled out the old traditional transit... in 67 feet headers and ledger were off a light 1/16th inch. I have the laser set up about 60' from the work area. The dot is large, about 1/4" so there is no problem seeing it in very bright sunlight. Overall the laser does feel cheap, I do take extra care not to let this thing get bumped around at all. Considering my friends have paid over $1000 for their rotary's that still need a detector in the sun light I feel that for the money paid and 2 jobs down the Robolaser has allready paid for itself.

I got the RoboLaser to help me layout a patio that I had being planning on doing for a while. I set up the RoboLaser on a camera tripod, got my remote control and a yard stick and was able to layout the patio in no time. The RoboLaser is easy to use. The laser dot was bright and had no difficulty finding it during a sunny day. I really recommend it for all those jobs that require leveling. This is truly a one-man surveying tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Laser, March 29, 2000

I recently purchased the robolaser and "WOW" what an item. The remote gives the robolaser a BIG plus. I pour concrete as a part-time job and when I used the robolaser for the first time, I wondered how I worked without it. It made the job go much faster and a whole lot easier than using a water level or straight level. I would highly recommend this product and the price you just can't beat.

It remains 1.5 inches out of level at 100 feet but is ok for very short distances. Remember you get what you pay for - and that is especially true for precision instruments. An accurate well made laser level costs about ..., so ... buys you what you might expect. My opinion is that those on a budget would be better served with a water level. They are a little more trouble to set up, but they are absolutely accurate.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unsatisfactory, March 23, 2005
This review is from: RoboToolz RT-7210-1 RoboLaser 1/8-Inch at 100-Feet Self-Leveling Interior Point Laser with Remote (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this tool and used it for a couple of months. It seemed to work really well and I was very pleased with it. After about three months of light use I noticed that it was off by more than an inch on a 22' wall. There was no warning to tell me that this was happening. I was always gentle with the tool when transporting and using it. I tried to recalibrate it but it would not recalibrate. When I called the Robo Toolz Company, they said that I had probably abused it. Not true. To their credit, they recalibrated it free of charge. I used it again for a few months and then found that it was off again by around 2 inches in forty feet. This tool only warns you if you try to set it up at too much of a slant when it is self leveling. Once you set it up and the warning light is not blinking, you have to trust that it is reading level or you have to check it every time you use it against two established benchmarks. When I again could not recalibrate it, I was told that there would be a charge to recalibrate it because it was out of warranty. Bottom line, I don't trust this tool. If it worked the way it is supposed to, I would highly recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Laser Challanged?, March 23, 2002

This review is from: RoboToolz RT-7210-1 RoboLaser 1/8-Inch at 100-Feet Self-Leveling Interior Point Laser with Remote (Tools & Home Improvement)
After buying a DeWalt and finding it was not accurate enough I decided to switch to a self leveling laser. The first RoboLaser I bought seemed to work OK for the most part at first. I was testing the unit on a wall about 60' away and trying to make the beam stop at a certian point. In the "slow" mode, as I tried to make the beam go to the right, it would actually go to the left for about a 1/2 inch then jerk over to the right about 3 inches, it seemed like the motor in the base unit was binding? I figured I could live with this and was in the process of doing some more testing. After 5 minutes of use the laser died. It would still rotate but no beam. I tried 3 new sets of batteries, no change. So I took it back and got a second unit, this unit would not turn on at all, period. So I took that unit back and got a third unit. The base station LED would turn on but the laser would not. I went back and purchased some Duracell coppertop Alkaline batteries for the base and the remote. I tried 4 sets of batteries, no go. I took this unit back and the store could not get it to work either. I give up on this product. If you buy one of these, make sure you can easily return it if you need to.

4.0 out of 5 stars You take your chances, December 11, 2003

This review is from: RoboToolz RT-7210-1 RoboLaser 1/8-Inch at 100-Feet Self-Leveling Interior Point Laser with Remote (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought the robe laser a couple of years ago and it worked fine, but recently it went out of calibration. Too bad it doesn't have an auto self-calibration. When the tool was working, it was a fantastic time saver (I'm a carpenter and general contractor) and one man set-up/use is invaluable. However, I recently was checking my newly poured foundation walls for level and was quite alarmed at 1-1/2" out of level with a shoot-spread angle less than 60 degrees so I borrowed a buddys' old but acurate scope transit to verify what's what and discovered only a 3/8" out of level foundation. So until I can spend the time to recalibrate it, it's useless. Now, I'm considering purchasing another one or stepping up to a cst/Berger or pls5x for the extra $250 and name brand reliability. I also have the robo-vector which, when it was working, was also a fantastic tool for squaring up corners and plumbing anything, however, it too is on the fritz, therefore useless until repaired/recalibrated. You get what you paid for, when this tool works its amazing, but if/when it goes out, its useless and a waste of time. Maybe I just got the lemons?
