Finally ... Relief for Password Overload,
By MJS81 (San Diego) - See all my reviews
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Roboform Password Manager & Form Filler [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
It seems like you have to have passwords for everything these days and more and more often there are increasingly unique requirements for the passwords ... case senstive, number of characters, special characters required vs. not allowed. How all the sites, companies and such expect us mere mortals to remember all these passwords is beyond me. After takign on a new work role and being inundated with literally a dozen or more new requirements for passwords, I decided that I had to find some help. I reviewed a variety of professional and user reviews of different software applications and eventually settled on Roboform and am glad that I did.
I had used FireFox's password manager and liked it but it only worked with Firefox and some of the sites I use had to be used with Internet Explorer. RoboForm works with both. Plus, you can go in and actually see the unencrypted passwords, print out the password, create a profile for completing on-line forms and much more. It was easy to install and set up ... very intuitive. They have a demo that you can run through quickly upon set up which gives you the basic how-to's and from there I was able to do everything I needed. It remembers the passwords and other logon info when you enter it the first time ... and then populates it at the click of a button the next time you're there. It'll also populate forms and such. I like that it only populates these fields when you click the button to tell it to ... as oppose to automatically doing it (since there's times that you don't want it to auto-complete forms and such). The real test was when my computer started to die and I had to re-install on a new laptop. I figured that I was safe because I could print out my passwords and would just have to re-enter again the first time. But, instead, I was able to copy over the password file to the new computer and pick right up where I was without having to re-enter any passwords. I give roboform high marks overall ... it's certainly made my password management a lot easier! Highly recommend Roboform.

Beware -- Siber Systems has changed their licensing scheme!!
I have been a Roboform users for 4 years now. I have 3 Roboform2Go licenses and 4 desktop Roboform licenses...but it ends today. If you are a current user of Roboform version 6, your terms of use indicated "free upgrades for life"; however, Siber Systems has completely abrogated that agreement, as you now have to pay for upgrades...and as of version 7, you now have to pay an annual fee if you want to be able to use synchronization across your computers. I agree that companies need a stream of income -- but there is a right way to do it and a wrong way. Slysoft did it right -- "we made a promise to our current customers, we'll keep that promise." New customers agree to the new terms, and are aware of the costs...but I agreed to a different set of terms, and they are honoring that. Siber Systems will soon be relegated to obscurity -- they apparently have no idea how strong word-of-mouth advertising is.

This product performs just as advertised, and does it efficiently. It doesn't handle all my password situations, however, such as when the User ID and Password have to entered sequentially rather than simultaneously.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Roboform Password Manager & Form Filler [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I purchased RoboForm Password Manager on 12/26/08. I received it on 1/20/09. I used it for a month without a problem. After a month, the program said that the trial period for my free version was over, and that I had to pay $29.99 to upgrade to RoboForm Pro. My version was not a free version. I paid Amazon $25 for a real version of the software that came in a retail box.
I was not interested in spending another $30 on this program, but the program would now only support 10 passwords (I had entered about 25). I contacted RoboForm to find out what was going on. I gave them my name, address, phone number, email address, Amazon order number and credit card information, but they could not find me in their records, and refused to help me. While all of this was going on I started having a problem logging in to ebay. Ebay claimed my password was invalid. I tried bypassing RoboForm and entering it manually, but it still wouldn't work. I could go to another computer however, and login just fine. The only thing different was RoboForm. I uninstalled the program, and guess what? My ebay login problem disappeared. Since RoboForm wouldn't work with me, I asked Amazon for a refund. I was out of their refund window by 3 days (since the product worked for a month), but they gave me a credit anyway. Amazon gets 5 stars, RoboForm gets 1.

This is pretty much what I was looking for - easy to install and a simple way of storing all of my usernames and passwords into one simple place.
I didn't think I would like the automatic login feature, but after I started using it, I liked it a bunch! Worth the $ as far as I'm concerned.

Poor Ethics. Bad Business. Can't be trusted.,

First, let me say the software has generally been very good. The only site I've had a problem with is Hulu.com because of their popup type login box. What the heck Hulu why did you need to make your log in a popup? Stupid.
Doesn't, or rather didn't, integrate with Chrome or Opera. I use all three but keep IE as default to use RF for password management. Looks like v7 does support all 3. The software takes some getting used to for really proficient use but really you can jump right in and ignore most of the software package and still have a very useful tool. Okay, that is the software. Now about the company. Do you make a product that relies entirely on the Internet, or even intranet, to be useful? I mean, no Internet, no web, no need for RoboForm right? So would you like to contact them? Want to use email via the Internet? Oh so sorry. Only a snail mail address is available or a non-800 phone number. What?!? Yes. It is true. How many companies don't have a contact email??? Holy crap. Companies that don't have anything to do with the internet have contact email addresses. If that doesn't give you pause then just click the buy button and get it over with. I cannot imagine how many thousands of customers they've just told to go jump in the lake that have a lifetime license. I too purchased a LIFETIME license a few years ago. I guess the honeymoon is over. I'll continue to use the version I have while I look for a new software program to take its place. I'll sure try hard to steer any potential purchaser away from them. Unless of course, they honor the license agreement they entered into with me. Funny, I bet they'd be outraged if I broke my agreement with them.

Nice Software, Not so nice company,

I have been a longtime user of this software and have generally been pretty happy with it. However, the company has recently reneged on their previous licensing agreement. In the past (from 2001 till December 2010) free upgrades were included, advertised and used to sell the product. Unfortunately they have unilaterally changed the licensing agreement and now are forcing existing license holders to "re-up" if they want to upgrade. There are quite a number of users such as myself who find their ethics and behavior disturbing and problematic. Personally, I have difficulty trusting a company who is willing to cast ethics aside in apparent pursuit of additional revenue. Especially if that company is making a product to secure my passwords.
You need to make a decision whether you are willing to do business with a company that behaves as this one apparently is willing to. Personally, I am looking for alternative solutions and have since notified Siber Systems local BBB of their questionable practices.

Beware of Roboform,
This review is from: Roboform Password Manager & Form Filler [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
Everyone beware of Roboform. They sell you software for automating your passwords then change the rules on you. I had no intentions of upgrading to version 7 (the previous so-called upgrades were free and they made it seem like a lifetime purchase) and now version 6 does not work with new versions of browsers so you cannot even login to the sites where you used Roboform to create accounts and change your password again. They have made it a giant pain for former customers to get out of using their software.
Do NOT buy Roboform!

Once gold, now garbage,

I have been using Roboform for more years than I can remember, and have found it intuitive and idispensable. But no longer. Much commentary focuses on the fact that Siber Systems has broken its promise of free lifetime upgrades by charging for v.7. This is a valid complaint and, if anyone is going to start a class action suit, count me in.
But even setting that aside, (I paid for 7), Roboform 7 is useless junk. 1) There is no way to direct what folder passcards should be stored it. 2) There is no way to direct it to the folder in which I have hundreds of stored passcards from v.6 or earlier. 3) Even with v.6 or earlier, every time I went to the Roboform site for an update it would try to sell me another one of severel other utilities, all of which had bad user reviews. 4) Support has always been nonexistent. Bottom line: Spread the word and let's all do our best to put Siber systems out of business and hopefully in jail.

Roboform is Bad Customer Service.,
This review is from: Roboform Password Manager & Form Filler [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
A former PAID customer
I purchased roboform and used it for about 3 months, I find their customer service terrible and i have lately had several drive problems that made me have to reinstall my OS, I was forced to reactivate roboform a email joke back and forth I gave up and use LASTPASS.com, It's FREE and way easier. Honestly most of the reviews have nothing todo with problems or customer service, If you dont need those things then maybe you will favor them but lastpass.com is truly free and works way better. I would check it out before i purchase roboform. Just as me I paid for Roboform and dont use it cus the problems with they company and i wont miss it period. |
