Emergency Landing, April 8, 2009
This review is from: Robot Pilot (DVD)
ROBOT PILOT ("Emergency Landing") is a programmer directed by the prolific William Beaudine.
The picture stars 22-year-old Forrest Tucker (Sgt. O'Rourke on TV's
F TROOP) as a test pilot. He and weather observer "Doc" Williams (Vogan) develop a remote control device to operate planes. Their initial trial for the military is sabotaged by foreign agents and the pilotless plane crashes. They determine to do more work on their robotic gadget, but we haven't seen the last of those blankety-blank spies!
ALPHA VIDEO is a provider of vintage programming that's often unavailable elsewhere. Their prices are fair, but so is transfer quality of some of their offerings. None have undergone restoration, yet this product's rareness and an honest price make it a worthwhile purchase.
Parenthetical number preceding title is a 1 to 10 viewer poll rating found at a film resource website.

CAST TRIVIA--
This was FORREST TUCKER's second film and first starring role. He premiered a year earlier in William Wyler's
THE WESTERNER, appearing with Gary Cooper and Walter Brennan.
CAROL HUGHES (Betty) replaced Jean Rogers as Dale Arden in the 3rd (and final) Flash Gordon serial,
FLASH GORDON CONQUERS THE UNIVERSE (1940). She was also at one time Regis Philbin's mother-in-law.
EVELYN BRENT (Maude) debuted on screen at age 16, in 1915, and had roles in 125 pictures between then and 1950.
JACK LESCOULIE (Capt. North) imitated Jack Benny in two Warner cartoons: "Daffy and the Dinousaur" (1939) and "Malibu Beach Party" (1940). After a brief stint as Steve Allen's replacement on "The Tonight Show," Lescoulie landed his most famous TV gig, as Dave Garroway's sidekick on NBC's original TODAY show. He appeared on this program from 1952 to '67.
Pencil-mustached I. STANFORD JOLLEY (Karl) seemed to specialize as 'B' movie villains, mostly in westerns.
BILLY CURTIS (Midget Judge) played McDonald's Mayor McCheese. His most famous role was "Mayor of the Munchkin City" in
THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939). Billy's screen debut was in the all-dwarf cult classic western,
THE TERROR OF TINY TOWN (1938). Clint Eastwood fans will remember him in
HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER (1972).
