If you were ever a fan of the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon series - you have to play this game. In this game, Robotnik is trying to robotcize the inhabitants of Beanville, and it's up to you to stop him. You get to do battle with the main bad guys from the show including Dr. Robotnik himself and his S.S.S.S.S. (Super Special Sonic Search and Smash) Squad (including Grounder, Scratch, and Coconuts). The graphics and music are great and this is a great puzzle game that will keep you entertained for hours. I bought a Genesis just for the purpose of playing this game.

I loved Dr. Robotnix when I had it years ago. My husband surprised me and bought the last Sega Genesis systems before they retired, and this game. Double surprise. This game is reminiscent of a "tetris" high. It plays as well as a two player competetion or as a solo-player. This is like Tetris but with some huge differences. Like Tetris where you stack same color in order to cause peices to collaspe, Dr. Robotnix uses colored bean like peices. You can be very imanginive in how you set up stacks and this is where alot of the fun comes in. You, or your opponent causes boulders to be droppped on the other player when collasping a stack of beans-the more combos you have set up the more boulders! In single player mode, after each level you are given a code so you don't have to start over from the beginning. The levels are from easy to very hard with each "boss" having a different style of game play to keep from being tedious. Each level is more challenging and faster drawing you back for more competive play. The colors are bright and characters creative with characters getting mad if you win.
Makes a good friendly competitive play among friends. Hasn't lost it luster over the years. Again Sega rules!

Being a sucker for puzzle games (Tetris, Klax, and the like), it did not take long for me to fall in love with this game. There are different difficulty settings (Easy is fun, and Hard is hard but also fun), and the rules of gameplay are easy enough to understand, and there's a couple of different gameplay modes you can choose (including against your own friends as well as the computer) The beans fall from the ceiling and you need to connect four of them (any way) to make them disappear while you duel with Dr. Robotnik's robots. You can arrange your beans as such to form cascade reactions to defeat your opponent (the longer/more complicated your cascading combinations, the more Gray beans gets shoved into your opponent's screen) I can't count how many hours I have spent enjoying this game. Solid classic, not to be missed. Two thumbs way up!

Falling block games reached the pinnacle of their evolution fairly quickly as Dr. Robotnik's MBM from 1993 is easily the most complex and fun example of the genre that began with Tetris, a primitive Russian strategy game from 1984 that has since become iconic. MBM is hardly an iconic game, but it is very cute if punishingly difficult.
I first played the game way back when it was first released at the age of twelve. I got to about level three before it got too hard from my kid's brain to cope with. Now, with the HD version on the PlayStation 3, I am able to save my progress and easily restart each level the moment I lose it is STILL nearly impossible and that's on medium difficulty. There are 13 stages in total (the Robotnik level is a hidden final stage) and with each progression the falling beans get slightly faster with greater variation between them. It was certainly luck and not skill that took me to the final stage and end credits, but what a relief when it was finally over! Graphics B Sound B Gameplay A- Lasting Appeal A-

Like the Sonic the Hedgehog version of Wario's Woods (although it's really based on Puyo Pop, which is still a fun game), this game (although pretty old) is a blast and a classic. It's good to also have a game not based on the video game storyline, using one with the cartoon instead. This game is VERY challenging (for me) because I'm not too good with puzzle games. If you like Tetris, I highly recommend it, but if you're not the kind of person that likes puzzles, be warned. The highest level I can get up to is five,(thirteen levels in all) but it's still fun, so, even if you're not a puzzle fan, it's a fun game. I still play over and over, even though it came out in 1993. There are a lot of enjoyable classics out there, and this is one of them.

I played this on the sonic mega collection and I must say this game is fun and challenging I actually defeated Dr. Robotnik and his robots after I understood the rules of the game which at times left me baffled.

In this puzzle game, Dr. Eggman has captured the citizens of Beanville and is tryng to turn them into robots! It's up to you to set them free.
Here you will face some of Dr. Eggman's earliest inventions, including Scratch, Grounder and Coconuts. To defeat them, you must free more beans. To set the beans free, group 4 or more of the same color together. Try setting more groups of beans free to increase your score. Also, if you are playing with an opponent, your opponent will get more robo-beans. They cannot be grouped, but can escape with a neighboring group. You can be very creative on how you set up the beans. In addition, the enemies get mad when you win, making it more challenging for each new level. It is so much fun to play, and we own both versions: the 2D version on Sonic Adventure DX, and the 3D version on Radica's Sega plug n' play game. This game not only gets 5 stars because it is such a fun and challenging puzzle game, but also because many of Dr. Eggman's earliest inventions were originally featured in the "Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog" TV show. Several years ago, that show didn't seem to air anymore. Why? It was such a great show, and I love seeing Sonic and Tails' misadventures with Dr. Eggman's earliest inventions! Oh, well. At least we have this video game!

DRMBM is actually a puzzle game rather than your average platformer. It's actually based off of the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog show and it is probably the only game to be.
The main game is connecting 3 of the same color. It's Puyo Puyo but with an American Sonic theme. There's a VS mode, a Training mode (Which is like playing solo in Tetris), and a Story mode that pits you against Dr. Robotnik's half-baked robots. The Game Over screen is pretty funny. During the countdown time for you to continue, Dr. Robotnik dances and taunts during the whole countdown. At the near end of it, he laughs evilly. The puzzling gameplay is pretty addicting, and it is still a fun game to this day. |
