Very Nice Time Saver!,
By Bryan (Sunnyvale, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Robotoolz RT-7610-5 Electronic Self-Leveling 5-Beam Level, Square and Plumb Laser (Tools & Home Improvement)
I do remodels so I am always looking for ways to save time and increase job safety. In my opinion this tool does both. After I purchased the tool I checked the three level lines and they were all eithin 1/8" on a wall 30' away. I have another laser (PLS2) that is useful for horz and vert lines and works real nice. However, what I wanted was something to aid me in the install of recessed lights. The first day I used this tool to determine the location for recessed lights on an existing ceiling, I transfered angled ceiling measurements and fan location to the floor and determined the recessed light locations within about 10 minutes. Just make a mark on the ceiling via the red dot and check for conflicting joists and you are done. This was an 11' ceiling and I remember the last time trying to measure out a room like this and leaning way off the ladder to measure, I almost fell a couple of times. The second day using this was for another room (new construction) so first I did the layout for 9 lights (about 15 minutes) then I taped a 2" piece of masking tape over the light opening so that I could mark dead center on the fixture. Using the plumb dot I had all the lights placed in about an hour. I think I saved a couple of hours on this small job alone and I am confident the lights are exactly where they need to be. It's kind of cool to watch the self leveling mechanism work through the little windows. Not sure how it works but it seems to be very accurate. The dot gets bigger the further away from the unit you go, at 25' I would say it's about a 1/4" however it also puts out an "X" pattern so it seems pretty to find center. I can't think of a better tool to assist in installing down lights, especially when the walls or soffits are at an angle to the joists. For the price I think it's the best laser bargain going!

Laser self-leveling RT-7610-5,

Price is very reasonable, after using this tool a few times it is very easy to use, I checked the plumb lines with a plumb bob to insure accuracy, and it was dead center at 15 feet high. the level is also very accurate--I use it to set cabinets, and for laying out.Just as important, the tool makers customer service is impressive, and they are very helpful with any questions or support. I think because of that I should have rated this tools with 5 stars.

Not perfect, but darn useful,

purchased this after going through much pain trying to locate several downlights in a large living room. That job alone paid for the puchase. Since then I've used it to lay out landscapes, fences, and cabinets. The self-leveling feature is perfect for amatures like myself. Some minor qualms, it's well built, but not bullet-proof (why did they move to servos for the level?!!?), the laser seems to shoot too large of a dot, and it's hard to see outside (even with the aids supplied). As others have noted, It's also very sensitive to being bumped, or serious vibrations; This has never been a problem for me, I'm not a contractor, but I can see it being a pain on a busy job site. Overall: highly recommended
