5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Time Saver!
I do remodels so I am always looking for ways to save time and increase job safety. In my opinion this tool does both. After I purchased the tool I checked the three level lines and they were all eithin 1/8" on a wall 30' away. I have another laser (PLS2) that is useful for horz and vert lines and works real nice. However, what I wanted was something to aid me in the install of recessed lights. The first day I used this tool to determine the location for recessed lights on an existing ceiling, I transfered angled ceiling measurements and fan location to the floor and determined the recessed light locations within about 10 minutes. Just make a mark on the ceiling via the red dot and check for conflicting joists and you are done. This was an 11' ceiling and I remember the last time trying to measure out a room like this and leaning way off the ladder to measure, I almost fell a couple of times. The second day using this was for another room (new construction) so first I did the layout for 9 lights (about 15 minutes) then I taped a 2" piece of masking tape over the light opening so that I could mark dead center on the fixture. Using the plumb dot I had all the lights placed in about an hour. I think I saved a couple of hours on this small job alone and I am confident the lights are exactly where they need to be. It's kind of cool to watch the self leveling mechanism work through the little windows. Not sure how it works but it seems to be very accurate. The dot gets bigger the further away from the unit you go, at 25' I would say it's about a 1/4" however it also puts out an "X" pattern so it seems pretty to find center. I can't think of a better tool to assist in installing down lights, especially when the walls or soffits are at an angle to the joists. For the price I think it's the best laser bargain going!

4.0 out of 5 stars Laser self-leveling RT-7610-5, April 5, 2002

Price is very reasonable, after using this tool a few times it is very easy to use, I checked the plumb lines with a plumb bob to insure accuracy, and it was dead center at 15 feet high. the level is also very accurate--I use it to set cabinets, and for laying out.
Just as important, the tool makers customer service is impressive, and they are very helpful with any questions or support.
I think because of that I should have rated this tools with 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but darn useful, October 24, 2003
This review is from: Robotoolz RT-7610-5 Electronic Self-Leveling 5-Beam Level, Square and Plumb Laser (Tools & Home Improvement)
purchased this after going through much pain trying to locate several downlights in a large living room. That job alone paid for the puchase. Since then I've used it to lay out landscapes, fences, and cabinets. The self-leveling feature is perfect for amatures like myself.

Some minor qualms, it's well built, but not bullet-proof (why did they move to servos for the level?!!?), the laser seems to shoot too large of a dot, and it's hard to see outside (even with the aids supplied). As others have noted, It's also very sensitive to being bumped, or serious vibrations; This has never been a problem for me, I'm not a contractor, but I can see it being a pain on a busy job site.

Overall: highly recommended

(Longer than others I have used.) Now I have a major complaint...after storing it in the recommended manner for five months, it will not produce a beam...it justs searches for level. The little motor hums, the little gimble indexes and I get nothing. It was working fine, no abuse, no accidents...can't recommend it now, can I?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Laser, March 23, 2005
By
This review is from: Robotoolz RT-7610-5 Electronic Self-Leveling 5-Beam Level, Square and Plumb Laser (Tools & Home Improvement)
Like some of the other reviewers, I bought this unit and it worked great out of the box. However, after a few months on non-use, it did not want to level. I tried batteries from another device that was working ( so I assumed the batteries were good), but still no luck. The factory said to make sure the batteries were fresh, so I bought new alkaline batteries and now the unit is working fine. This is a great tool, and I seem to find more uses for it all the time. My advice to anyone having trouble is - MAKE SURE your batteries are fresh.

1.0 out of 5 stars Laser problems, March 8, 2004

This review is from: Robotoolz RT-7610-5 Electronic Self-Leveling 5-Beam Level, Square and Plumb Laser (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have a similar problem as two other users. I used the system several times immediately after purchase and it worked fine. Then I didn't use it for over 8 months. It was stored in the original container and inside the house. I recently tried to use it again and now the servos work, but there is no laser. I've got an email into the company, but we'll see...

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing tool, September 9, 2002
This review is from: Robotoolz RT-7610-5 Electronic Self-Leveling 5-Beam Level, Square and Plumb Laser (Tools & Home Improvement)
I am a home enthusiast, and I am building a rather large deck in total approx. 3000 sq. feet. of various levels and angles. I purchased the RT-7510-5 because I felt the price was right and if it worked as advertised I would save alot of time and effort. The RT-7510-5 was a real surprise. It totally exceeded my expectations. It is so easy to use, especially convenient is the auto leveling feature. The beam is bright, clear, and right on the money. This is one of the best investments in a tool I ever made.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Robotoolz RT-7610-5 Electronic Self-Leveling 5-Beam Level, Square and Plumb Laser (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've used the PLS-5 (an excellent product) but like the RT better. The beams are all in the same plane and calibration in the field is easy. Face it, no instrument of this complexity will be perfect after a trip to you on UPS, or to the job in the truck toolbox, but the RT doesn't have to visit the factory like other lasers. The only complaint was the Toolz tripod would not mount the RT. An E-mail to the company resulted in a same day response and a fix. Cannot ask for more than that.

bought the rt-7610-5 for building a 60' x 130' covered riding arena, a major project for me. used the RT-7610 to set the corner posts square (only one chance to get it right!). It was dead on over 130' (mfr spec is 100' or less). big time saver and risk saver. WARNING: check the unit out of the box. I ordered one mail order, and it wouldn't self-level properly. I eventually bought a replacement at a local store, and it was dead on perfect. They need to be handled with care!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great - Calibrate it yourself, March 15, 2005
This review is from: Robotoolz RT-7610-5 Electronic Self-Leveling 5-Beam Level, Square and Plumb Laser (Tools & Home Improvement)
I tried a couple co-workers lasers and found both to be about equal. One of the unique features of the RoboToolz is that the user can calibrate the tool on the jobsite, saving both the time and expense of sending the tool back to the factory, and, therefore, keeping it working. It levels quickly and projects a tight beam. Overall, a great tool at a great price.
