More Greats From 1983, August 13, 2001
This review is from: Rock on 1983 (Audio CD)
Rock On's second collection of songs from 1983 matches the first with its great combination of superstars and one hit wonders. Bad boy rocker Billy Idol opens the album up with the evil "White Wedding" and The Eurythmics follow with their lone number one hit, the haunting "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)". MTV favorites Duran Duran provide the Far East inspired "Union Of The Snake". Ska rockers Madness where a major chart force in their native England, but the ultra catchy "Our House" was their only hit in the US. The same goes for Spandau Ballet whose smooth and lush ballad "True" was their only hit. Culture Club's "Time (Clock Of The Heart) shows off the band's r&b influences while The Stray Cats retro rock shines on the driving "(She's) Sexy & 17". Donna Summer sheds her disco skin on the hard edged, rock influenced "She Works Hard For The Money" and The Greg Kihn Band closes things out with the rocking number two smash "Jeopardy".
