Book Description

When Ozzie follows Hank into a junkyard, she doesn't expect to find him being held up by angels. Nor does she expect him to turn into a dog to escape from them. Ozma Jones (Ozzie to her friends) is plunged into the middle of the war between shape shifting Djinn and angels who have infiltrated the world's governments. The Djinn want to use her as a mule to carry the missing piece of Solomon's ring. The angels just want her out of the way, and will stop at nothing to nullify her. If the missing piece of the ring is replaced, it will stop the angels from interfering in human affairs, and keep Ozzie and her family from being punished for what Ozzie knows. But to do so, she has to avoid falling for Hank, and maybe even summon a more ancient threat than either angels or Djinn.

Contains violence and sexual content. 200 pp novel.

About the Author

Lawrence Kapture has been involved with books all his life, as an avid reader and then a librarian. Eleven years with the New York Public Library included time on the influential Books to Remember committee, and ended with him moving to the sticks to take a gig as the Head of Adult and Reference services at a library near Kalamazoo. Because he is married, he could sing “I’ve got a girl in Kalamazoo” and be factually correct, but doesn’t particularly care for Benny Goodman. He started publishing in the early nineties with role playing game supplements. He keeps a blog at electricwell.blogspot.com

4.0 out of 5 stars A captivating UF tale March 24, 2012
By Nicki J
Format:Kindle Edition
I received this book as a review request from the author and the premise caught my attention straight away. I loved the idea of the story and, as I started reading, I also came to love the characters too.

Ozzie is a strong, capable heroine, ably assisted by a cast of diverse characters, such as Hank the Djinn and fallen Seraph Astaris. The characters all came across well as individuals and there was some good dialogue and interaction.

The story moved at a pleasing pace and I was always keen to find out what would happen next. There were a few little bits here and there that had not been picked up in edits - some typos, some repetition - but they were only minor things and did not detract from my enjoyment of the story.

I would recommend this book to Urban Fantasy fans who are looking for a bit of a change from vampires and shifters. I would certainly be happy to read more from this author in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic high adventure urban fantasy December 23, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Ozzie Jones is a skip tracer, kind of like a bounty hunter but without the glamour. When her latest quarry turns out to be a Djinn pursued by angels, things go bad. This is a classic high-adventure fantasy romp in and around the modern world. There's travel to exotic places, the universe's hidden underbelly. Romance, hard choices, and general mayhem abound. I wil reread this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read December 14, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I don't read as often as I'd like; time seems to run out before I can get any reading in each day. Rock of Aeons was the first novel I've been able to finish in a long time, not because of my own dedication, but because I couldn't stop once I got going!

All the classic plot elements are included in the story, yet nothing seemed predictable or simple - the lines between good and evil are painted with a broad, grey brush. It probably took me longer to emotionally invest in one of the "sides" than it did the protagonist.

The characters are well-written and easy to relate to. I know that urban fantasy is big right now, and it's refreshing to read a book where the supernatural doesn't consist of angst-ridden movie-monsters.

Finally, I'll admit - I'm a lazy reader. The feeling that I have to memorize a bunch of made-up fictional rules for particular fantasy/sci-fi world is often enough to turn me off to a story. Lawrence Kapture keeps the fantastic elements detailed enough to provide answers to immediate questions, without providing so much exposition and explanation that I lose the flow of the plot. And this is important, because the story moves.

This is an excellent read, and I've already begun recommending it to friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Paranormal Fantasy October 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I liked reading Rock of Aeons. It unfolded as an entertaining fantasy story with a crime noir feel, and even a dash of paranormal romance.

The book centers on Ozzie, a female bounty hunter chasing a skip named Hank who is more than he seems. Soon her life is full of paranormal creatures, namely mythological Djinn and Angels, and she is smack in the middle of their war looking for a way out alive.

The author does an excellent job with the mythological aspects of the book, grounding them in their origins before putting his own spin on myths and legends. This lends the supernatural nature of the book a legitimate tone and the magic doesn't seem forced or fake.

I also found the romantic relationship realistic; there were no rushed feelings or artificial interactions. In addition the circumstances that drive the plot flow naturally and the decisions made by the main character seem neither too phony nor too altruistic. The characters all have a slight tinge of ambiguity and there is no overt "good vs. evil", yet the authors still maintains a clear separation of "good guys" and "bad guys".

Altogether I found Rock of Aeons to be well-written, nicely plotted and I recommend it as a book worth reading.
