5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Sound in a Doll's CD, Who Knew?!
This album certainly is not your mother's rock 'n roll! Most of the tracks are high energy and rock driven (with the occasional rock ballad) without being obnoxious or overdone. (In other words, adults can enjoy this as much as their kids, and I can say this being a 20-something adult, myself!) I'd say the songs lean more toward rock than pop, with positive and upbeat...

2.0 out of 5 stars Mind-Numbing, All-Too-Similar, Wanna-Be Marketing Sing-Song Junk
The title just says it all, doesn't it? The songs are just ALL THE SAME, cheaply made and recorded, and so obviously only in exsistence for MGAe's revenue. My proof: only an album has been released, no 'So Good' single - they want you to spend extra money on a bunch of other quick-fix songs you don't want!

Firstly, the 'inspirational' lyrics that the...

This album certainly is not your mother's rock 'n roll! Most of the tracks are high energy and rock driven (with the occasional rock ballad) without being obnoxious or overdone. (In other words, adults can enjoy this as much as their kids, and I can say this being a 20-something adult, myself!) I'd say the songs lean more toward rock than pop, with positive and upbeat messages about being yourself, standing by your friends, and overall, just having a good attitude about life.

For example, "Lookin' Good" is about having a positive attitude despite how circumstances may seem at the time. "All About You" is about being liked for you who are, not what you own, and "Nobody's Girl" proclaims that no guy can tell you what to do or who to be, and if he does, to show him the door.

No fluff here, "Rock Angelz" is a quality album both in content and sound. The "band," the musicians, producers, and everyone involved have created a radio airplay-worthy album that anyone of any age can enjoy. Fans of any of the five Bratz can pick their favorite tracks, as each girl sings solo on at least two each. (My personal fave's are Roxxi and Jade--each has a wonderfully sophisticated singing voice that really meld well with the rock guitar sounds.)

A CD sure to spend some quality time in your player for a while!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rockin' HOT, August 1, 2005
This review is from: Rock Angelz (Audio CD)
I purchased this CD thinking it would be something my friends and I could laugh at, and I was shocked! It was a gituar heavy,
Well written, and well Freakin'cast, MASTERPEICE!

"So Good"(All) ~ This song is about acting on your ambitions, regardless of apprehension.

"Change The World" (All) ~ This song is about doing what you can to make the earth a better place.

"I Don't Care"(Roxxi) ~ Roxxi's girlfirends are giving her crap about her boyfriend, and she "Don't Care", because he's a keeper.
Roxxi's vochals are that of a good country singer.

"All About You"(Sasha) ~ Sasha is trying to reassure her boyfriend, who has alot going for him, but is self concious, and doubtful that she likes him for him.

"Who I Am"(Sasha) ~ Sasha is getting the short end of the stick,
she is being judged rather than befriended. I dig the claps.
Sashas vochals are strong and that's how I like em'!

"So What"(Jade) ~ Jade is in the same position that is described in the previous song, but she loves it!Jade's vochals are hard and scratchy, like Ashlee Simpson.

"You Think"(Cloe) ~ Cloe is being taken for granted by a friend,
and rather than leaving, gives the swine a " cut the crap" butt chewing. Cloe's voice is big and clean.

"It Could Be Yours"(Roxxi) ~ This song is a simply put statement
of ability, saying you can do whatever you want if you play your cards right.

"Lookin' Good"(Jade) ~ Jade's tumultuous lifestyle has left her in a rut, but she is making the best of it, and working through it.

"Rock The World"(Yasmin) ~ World-Weary Yasmin is telling a sheltered friend about her intentions of liberating him\her.
Yasmin's voice is not big but it is very beautiful.

"Stand Out"(Roxxi) ~ This is the song that brings you back to the early 2000's, the first era of Bratz, where everything the girls wore was fuzzy, flourescent, an in animal print.

"Nobody's Girl"(Yasmin) ~ Yasmin is being objectified by her boyfriend , and in this rock ballad she tells it like it is.
It's also the best breakup song I'v ever heard.

"Se Siente"(All) ~ A spanish translation of "So Good".

Even if you haven't heard any songs, grab tis CD you will NOT!
NOT! NOT! Regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME CD., December 4, 2005

If you like pop and fun music, then this CD is for you. I orginally only bought it because Janet Leon from Play sings "Nobody's Girl" and she's like my favorite singer, but to my surprise all of the songs are REALLY good. It's not really only for small kids. I think teenagers who like pop music will enjoy this CD and the messages it brings to you.

So I really reccomend it to anyone! =)

5.0 out of 5 stars From A Male Perspective..., December 13, 2005
This review is from: Rock Angelz (Audio CD)
I hate what the Bratz stand for...and I'm not too fond of the whole "Girl Power" revolution either...but as much as I hate to admit it... this CD is awesome. I've had it looped for a day now. As mentioned in other reviews, it is radio-airplay quality. These aren't fluff songs to go along with some kids toy and cartoon, these are legit and done very well and sung very well. Only problem I really have is the lyrics...way too much girl power. But once you get over that, this CD will have you hooked.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shockingly good bubblegum/girl powerpop!!!, August 8, 2005
This review is from: Rock Angelz (Audio CD)
Well, I have to admit, I was hesitant to give this CD a try, as the "Bratz" are obviously a fake "girlband", made of dolls...yet I was given the opportunity to listen to it first, so I did with low expectations...

I was pleasantly surprised...this is shockingly well-crafted hybrid of classic 60s/70s bubblegum ala The Archies/Banana Splits/Josie & The Pussycats and modernday girl powerpop ala Hilary Duff and Ashlee Simpson!!!

I've always loved well-crafted bubblegum, as it's always been FUN, and had an emphasis on slambang hooky pop songcraft, even though it was made to sell products like dolls and sugary breakfast cereal...being the "artists" on those records are either purposely fake (where the Bratz fit in, aka they are cute rocking dolls) or made to look real but are inauthentic, the focus is on the craft of these songs "behind the scenes", and on this Bratz record, it's no different, except on the surface, the sound is made somewhat contemporary, like a Hilary Duff or Ashlee Simpson record (which are basically good bubblegum anyway).

I'd say it succeeds on all levels, except there are many older kids who would dismiss this as kidstuff, not real or authentic, which is besides the point. Thirtysomething adults like me who know the history of bubblegum and can appreciate it...read the book "Bubblegum Music Is The Naked Truth", a fun and educational read that will open your eyes bar none...will eat the Bratz up as much as your 6 year old daughter/niece/kid sister...

All 13 cuts are great, even the Spanish version of opening track "So Good" (a nod to the Archies' "Feelin' So Good (S.K.O.O.B.Y.D.O.O)" perhaps??)...exciting even, that you would think the Bratz were a real girlband, which is exactly the point...just because they aren't "real" doesn't mean they can't SOUND real!!

The producers/songwriters/musicians all appear to come from Scandinavia somewhere, which makes sense as they are the modernday bubblegum masters, following Cheiron and ABBA's Benny & Bjorn and Roxette's/Gyllene Tider's Per Gessle...it's almost like, as Redd Kross' Jeff & Steve McDonald call it, a bubblegum factory...

Eat up the Bratz...lip-smackingly good...then you can buy the dolls, DVD, videogames, mini-music CDs, cars, tourbus, partyplane, fashionbags, luggage, videocameras, headphone radios, karaoke machine, alarm clock, cd player, boombox, bike, helmet, scooter, buttons, sleeping bag, purse, stationary, games, etc...just like classic bubblegum and KISS, woohoo!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great message, great songs, January 30, 2006
This review is from: Rock Angelz (Audio CD)
My wife and I bought this CD for our 7-year-old's birthday to go along with the Rock Angelz dolls she got for Christmas. I'm not sure what I was expecting; having grown up during the Monkees\Archies\Banana Splits era of music as a marketing tool for a cartoon\cereal\toy. And as a professional rock\pop\top 40 musician for over 30 years I can be quite critical at times. But to prove I'm not just old and out-of-touch, I'm equally at home with everything from the Beatles to Evanescence and Nickelback. Good songs transcend generations an genres.

Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised. If these songs weren't attached to a toy, they'd be in heavy rotation right next to Avril and Alanis. They're well crafted, have a danceable beat and catchy hooks. They're well performed, and the production is top-notch (despite the opinion of a 13-year-old reviewer who was probably listening on a cheap CD player). Some of these songs are so irresistable, my band is thinking of picking a few up to add to our list of "cover" songs ;).

Listenening more intently to the lyrics, I found nothing but positive messages about self esteem, courage, and making the right choices. These are messages I WANT my daughter to hear, rather than some of the cr*p commercial radio wants to push, and they're packaged in a format that kids and parents will enjoy.

Get this CD - you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best CD for girls, March 23, 2006

I am VERY pleased with this CD. There is no swearing, drugs, sexual messages, or negative messages--it's all positive things that I love hearing my daughter sing along with! It is "cool" and NOT "babyish". It is perfect for girls in the "tween" stage. My daughter also likes Gwen Stefani's "hollaback" song. I was upset to learn that the "s" word is in it about 100 times. It was bleeped in the radio version and didn't know it was there when I bought it. I didn't like hearing my 8 year old sing that word--we had a discussion about that, lol. I can safely allow her to listen and sing along with the Bratz cd--over and over, and not have to worry about her hearing negative messages or singing swear words. Thank you, makers of Bratz!
