The Rock Art of Utah
From the Donald Scott Collection
Polly Schaafsma

From the Uinta Mountains through the central canyonlands to the Virgin River, Utah’s abundant prehistoric rock art offers glimpses of a lost world. Over many centuries, the Fremont and Anasazi peoples left an artistic record in which distinctive styles are readily identifiable.

The Rock Art of Utah is a guide to the many varieties of rock art found in the state. Through dozens of high-quality photographs and drawings from the Donald Scott Collection, all made during the 1920s and 30s, author Polly Schaafsma provides a fascinating, comprehensive tour of this unique legacy.

The Rock Art of Utah, now in an updated edition, will engage anyone with an interest in the ancient peoples of the Colorado Plateau.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book available on Rock Art, May 6, 2007
This review is from: Rock Art Of Utah (Paperback)
Polly Schaafsma is the expert on Southwestern Rock art. This book is based on a lifetime devoted to the scientific study of Rock art. It is grounded in science but easily readable.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rock Art Of Utah (Paperback)
I have been very involved in the study of rock art and in rock art protection. Writing from that perspective, I can say that the author of this book is highly respected and this is a very good book on the subject.

In ordering this book however, if you go through one of Amazon's independent distributors, be sure the book you receive has the latest revision. I ordered this book in this manner and was sent a copy of the book with an older copyright date than Amazon noted. In the past I had the earlier version and read it, and I was wanting the more current information. Unfortunately, I did not think to check the copyright date when I got the book from the Amazon distributor and I put the book aside for awhile and didn't notice the problem until a number of months after the purchase, so I let the matter drop. (This happened to me with two different books on rock art.) Be aware.
