5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent alternative to DLC.
A good alternative to having Downloadable Content (DLC) on the Wii. This track pack gives you the opportunity to own 20 of the songs that the other consoles can purchase individually. We have Rock Band 2 for the Wii and bought this 'Track Pack' thinking that it would be able to add to the songs available in Rock Band 2. That is certainly what the package suggests. Though it does say that Rock Band 2 is not required to use it, what it does not tell you is that IT DOES NOT WORK WITH ROCK BAND or ROCK BAND 2. It is a separate, stand-alone game...

A good alternative to having Downloadable Content (DLC) on the Wii. This track pack gives you the opportunity to own 20 of the songs that the other consoles can purchase individually. This game does NOT require you to own any other version of Rock Band, it is a stand-alone. So in that aspect it could be viewed as a large demo.

The song listing in my opinion is just OK, but that is all about your own personal taste. The songs are all master recordings. Stone Roses - "Love Spreads" is my favorite song by far and I had never heard that song before this game. If you are an "expert" plastic guitar player, this track pack will not bring too much challenge. For the easy-hard players, this is a good opportunity to have some fun rocking out and even move up a notch in difficulty. $30 for 20 songs isn't too bad of a price considering you could spend $40 if you had to download them all separately, and this track pack doesn't require you to own the full game.

Bottom Line: If you like the songs on this list, it's a must buy. (Plastic music peripheral sold separately.)

As others have already stated, this track pack could use more songs. Having said that, I will say that the song selection is pretty good though. I love the fact that they put "Closer to the Heart" by Rush on this - one of my favorite Rush songs. Two thumbs up.
To clarify, just in case there is still some confusion out there about compatibility, this track pack (for the Wii) IS compatible with the Wii Band Hero instruments. I was a little nervous to buy this game because the first Rock Band is not supposed to be compatible with the Band Hero instruments, but Rock Band 2 is compatible, so I wasn't sure where the track packs fit into the picture. But, my guitar and drums work perfectly - no problems. I can't say whether this will work with the Guitar Hero World Tour instruments, but my guess would be that it does not. The Wii has the least compatibility between Rock Band and Guitar Hero out of the gaming consoles.

So, if you play the songs here, you do not use your band from Rock Band 2. None of the songs can be added to Rock Band 2. If you want to use any of the songs on this disk with Rock Band 2, you must repurchase them online.

Very disappointing.

Of course the game itself is probably fine, if you don't have RB or RB2. But why would I not want these tunes in with the more full-featured RB2?

No complaints here. I got the game very quickly and it was new in plastic just as advertised. Fun to play, just realize if you want to go more in depth with Rock Band you have to buy the actual game.

3.0 out of 5 stars "Classic Rock" Classification of Some Songs is Questionable, November 29, 2010
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rock Band Track Pack: Classic Rock (Video Game)
I grew up in Southern California, listening to AOR format 94.7 KMET on the radio (RIP) - KMET played true "classic rock." Few stations that bill themselves today as "classic rock" stations truly play the music that originally defined that genre, instead playing only hits, as well as some music that hardly fits the genre.

This "track pack" has many good, classic rock songs. But there are also impostors; songs that were probably added only because the rights/licenses for true classic rock songs were unobtainable before the scheduled release of this game. That's the only explanation that makes sense, because the following are NOT classic rock artists/songs:

Dead Kennedys - "California Uber Alles"
Dead Kennedys - "Holiday in Cambodia"
Lenny Kravitz - "Let Love Rule"
Siouxie & the Banshees - "Kiss Them For Me"
Stone Roses - "Love Spreads"

I mean, seriously - the "Dead Kennedys???" They are a punk band.

If someone at Harmonix honestly thinks these are classic rock artists/songs, they should be fired; it's blasphemy!

In conclusion, if you don't mind 25% of this "track pack" being occupied by these songs (not passing judgment on the quality of these songs, they're just not "classic rock"), and don't mind the fact that this is a standalone game, then it's probably worth getting. I bought this from a local game store, used, for $10 - so that wasn't a bad price for what I got out of it.

When I bought this I looked at the song list and as usual figured the songs I didn't recognize would be familiar once I started playing. Not so, I don't know half the songs on this version which would not normally be that bad except they are not good either. Maybe it's because I'm an older guy but whoever picks these songs needs to change his methodology. I've been a music lover for many years now and just don't love these, "my ears hurt" would be the best way to explain my feelings for these. Maybe I'm just getting old.
