5.0 out of 5 stars get the musicians on the cd right
the rock city angels like most bands forgot were they came from and who played on the actual studio tracks. this cd was originally recorded at prisma studios ft. lauderdale fla.june of 1984. a fine drummer named dirty dave johns recorded all the drum tracks (i6) in all, and a hell of a guitar player named taggart reid tracked the recording like there was no tomorrow...

3.0 out of 5 stars I play on the disk, but don't get credit
The mix isn't bad but it's got a lot of reverb. I don't understand why Dirty Dave and I don't get credit for playing on the six tracks we are on. I even wrote the music to 'Need Some Luv.' Some of the original backing vocals were mixed out, leaving a bit of a whole in the music. I guess I've been listening to my original mixes from the sessions for to many years and just...

5.0 out of 5 stars A GEM OF PUNK-INFLUENCED GLAM-ROCK! BLOODY BRILLIANT!, November 14, 1999

This CD really shocked me! I've heard about this album for years---but apparently the masters wer lost or something untill now. (Who knows! There are more conspiracy theories about this band that X-Files! This was Johnny Depp's former band after all!) The music reminds me of the SEX PISTOL and GENERATION X! It is AWESOME!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock City Angels, September 24, 2004
This review is from: Rock City Angels [Numbered Collector's Edition] (Audio CD)
The Rock City Angels got their start in S. Fla in the 80's then moved to LA where they were eventually signed by Geffen Records. This CD is very different from "The Young Man's Blues" lp released by Geffen. This CD reflects who the Angels were in the S. Fla days - and they were very exciting. For more information about the S. Fla version(s) of THe Rock City Angel, visit http://www.goldcoastlive.com The band was featured on the cover, interviewed, reviewed so on and so forth. A good chunk of their history is documented here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rock City Angels, January 16, 2003

Ok this album was intended to be released before their debut "young mans blues". I loved YMB, so was thrilled to see this CD finally out. It's musically different, but still rocks.
If you like the New York Dolls, you'll love this CD. It could be a dolls release. I havn't heard a band sound so much like a single influence since Rhinobucket released thier AC/DC influenced debut. Bobby Durango sounds just like David Johannson, and they even do a Johnny Thunders cover.
If you like raw sleazy rock check in out.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Was a Teenage Rock City Angel, August 15, 2006
This review is from: Rock City Angels [Numbered Collector's Edition] (Audio CD)
I first got a bootleg tape from my friend Andy . At the time I was just getting my feet wet in heavy metal . In 1984 in South Florida we did not have a voice all we had was Skynrd and well Miami Vice Driven music. The Rock City Angels came out of the early 80's punk movement and brougt the Kaos of punk to Glam Rock and set the bar for all to come. Teenage Lipstick Boys was like a battle cry for all of kids wearing our mothers make up and keeping Aqua Net in business.Dark Angels still had the punk drone to it. The stand out song on the is for me the cover of LA Woman . As for Johnny Depp he sadly never played on this album . Davy Gregg aka Davy Lightning was the axe on this record that stood out. Gigs at Godmothers and The Jockey Pub would often start with a high not but must often end in disater!. This band was the single biggest influence in my music career which shows because I am 35 and still not signed! If you love the New York Dolls and The Dead Boys ....Go buy their F**KING Albums.. This is nothing like you have ever or will hear!!

For fans of Rock City Angels, this is a little different than the one album everyone remembers.

this is the punk rock version of the band before geffen records decided they needed a change.

i am a Big fan of the Young Man Blues, but this is raw and raunchy, the way rock was meant to be !!!

An absolute delight for true rock fans of the old style of in your face rock-n-roll..

definitely worth the buy..

3.0 out of 5 stars I play on the disk, but don't get credit, November 9, 2001
This review is from: Rock City Angels [Numbered Collector's Edition] (Audio CD)
The mix isn't bad but it's got a lot of reverb. I don't understand why Dirty Dave and I don't get credit for playing on the six tracks we are on. I even wrote the music to 'Need Some Luv.' Some of the original backing vocals were mixed out, leaving a bit of a whole in the music. I guess I've been listening to my original mixes from the sessions for to many years and just got used to them. It's good to see that stuff finally get released though. I like the re-recordings of LA Woman, Lipstick Boys, Lets Go!(originally, Big Black Cadillac), Dark Angels, and Cherry Street, but the other six tunes have Taggart on guitar and Dirty Dave Johns on drums. I think I should have received a free copy at least. Good Health and Memory Angels, Peace

Back in '88 I got the 3-sided album called Young Man's Blues. That recording is so much better. The sound and flow is far better on the Young Man's Blues. The forth side has an extended mix on it. Too bad the second record is not on CD.
