Book Description

May 31, 2007
Rock and Fire - Love Poetry from the Core offers mature, realistic, fantasy, blunt, and hard-line scribes dealing with love in all shapes, forms, and fashions. This edgy, comprehensive lyrical package (for grown folks only) covers the spiritual, emotional, romantic, physical, and mental aspects of love. As human beings, during our nonstop effort to evolve toward a higher degree of existing, we all go through several phases where we expose ourselves to different elements. In our valiant attempt to achieve, realize, and deliver this thing called love ; love itself breaks us down and often has us indirectly touching the outer limits of every facet of the subject as they pertain to happiness, anger, arousal, and despair. Love is real. It sometimes prompts us to engage in real things whether good, bad, or ugly. In order to grow, we have to acknowledge each event as it materializes into its fullest effect. Whether we want to attest to it or not, every situation encountered dealing with love gives all the signs and/or symbols we need in order to grow. Love, or what we think is love, can enter us into challenging situations in which we have no business being, but we still have to use the experience as a learning tool in order to advance in life. Some of us confuse love with lust. Many of us strongly know the difference and still allow the lusting to run its course. After our mind becomes clear again, we tend to ask for forgiveness and assume that our contrition in asking for it will yield coverage until of course the next spell of temptation prompts lusting again. In encountering love issues, it matters not whether we re saved, lost, found, anointed, or appointed...as long as we live, love will expose itself and expose us at one point in time or another. But, spiritual connectivity is the ultimate factor in coping with love s perils. As love rubs, punches, bites, and stimulates, it has a track record of mastering us as we attempt to master it. Our saving grace is us having faith to hold on as God works, continuously displaying mercy upon us as we progress. Rock and Fire promises to cast the reader deeply into compromising situations, revealing obvious and in some cases cavalier hints and clues as to the true direction of each poem. Nonetheless, pleasure, pain, happiness, and sadness are just a few of the feelings realized when rocked with the fire of the sizzling words contained within this book! Again, grown folks only! Review

What happens when ICE meets FIRE in the mind of a black man? Does his emotions melt or sizzle? Marc Lacy delivers a tantalizing poetical drink of melodic ambrosia in ROCK & FIRE that s good to the very last drop! The SEXIEST, MOST HONEST & PROLIFIC poetry book on real issues from infidelity, romance, and parenthood, to faith and very tempestuous circumstances HAS ARRIVED FOR DIEHARD ROMANTIC POETRY LOVERS! You will fall in love with poetry all over again. --Heather Covington, Editor-in-chief, DisilgoldSOUL Magazine, YOUnity Guild of America, and Literary Dons

I highly recommend that readers spend some well vested time exploring the elements of passion, pleasure and the elsewhere of pain that summons as details in Marc Lacy s new book Rock and Fire. This literary travelogue is thoroughly engaging as it trespasses thematic titles such as Taste Birth , You, Me and She , and Unexpected, a revelatory composition that seeks a decoding of nature and creation. Lacy is the greatly expected for an investigation of things that go bump in the night and the rites of passage of love potions. His writings once again suggest of going beyond the hype, hoopla and tattle telling of male and female relationships. --Maurice Henderson, Executive Director, National Black Authors Tour

Marc Lacy strikes with the boldness of a cobra, and is both fierce and calculated; Rock and Fire is deliciously alluring and will leave you immensely satisfied. --Elissa Gabrielle, Good to the Last Drop

About the Author

Marc Lacy, the second child and first son of three children born to Walter and Julianne White Lacy is a cum laude mechanical engineering graduate of Alabama A&M University (AAMU). While matriculating through AAMU, he was a starting forward for the Men s varsity basketball team. Also when Marc was on the yard , he was often sought for various speaking engagements, and he delivered presentations as a means of enhancing student life and morale on campus. Often referred to as a left and right brain type of guy, Marc s Gemini-esque character is highlighted by the fact that he is a government contractor by day and a disc-jockey/audio specialist by night. He is also the CEO of AVO Publishing, under which his literary works and audio recordings have been published and produced. In having toured the nation, Marc is most noted for his smooth flowing lyrics and creative mind which are exuded in his eloquently written poetry. On stage, a beast is awakened within as Marc delivers his often-charged and thought provoking spoken word performances. By offering a wide range of subject matter in his work, Marc has been able to cover a lot of ground within his craft. His versatile writing and performance (through God s blessings) have played a big factor in his book, The Looking Heart, and spoken word CD, REFlux winning several literary awards.

4.0 out of 5 stars Impressive, November 2, 2009
This review is from: Rock and Fire - Love Poetry from the Core (Paperback)
I must first admit that I am not a fan of poetry books. While I do enjoy reading poetry, it's difficult for me to sit down and read one poem after the other in a full book. Usually I get bored and only read a few of the poems. I tend to pick the ones that stand out to me and leave the rest.

However, this did not occur while reading this book. Marc Lacy's poetry book takes on a different aspect and style than most books of poetry. I was first impressed with the table of contents which listed the Chapters of the book. It begins with chapter one, The Rock, and ends with chapter five, The Fire. In between we have a story about love that is told poetically. There was no desire to put the book down. I had to keep reading in order to stay with the story.

I was also impressed with the poetry contained within these pages. It's sexy, romantic, thought provoking, spiritual, and full of emotion. It will challenge your intellect as well as baffle your senses. To put it plainly, it will make you think. That's what any good book should do. Keep your tissues handy while reading because you will cry. Sometimes it will be from the emotions and other times from laughter. This was definitely a great read.
