I was a Bass Player years ago and just recently, my son decided to pick up playing guitar...well, long story short - I played his guitar as much as he did. I wanted to get him - and I - something to learn from and found the Rock House website

and what a blessing it was. I ordered this DVD (in addition to a few more) and have not been disappointed. The level of instruction is perfect for the lesson levels and in no time at all, my son and I have become better players.

I know Private Lessons are available in most areas, but I think about it this way. Spend a couple of dollars on these DVD's, gain enough knowledge/experience using these and THEN go to a Private Instructor down the road. Private lessons can cost 30.00 a half an hour and your first year alone can cost you upwards of 1400.00. Why not spend 100.00 ordering EVERY Rock Guitar/Heavy Metal/Hands of Steel DVD's, get all of that knowledge and then down the road - use a Private Instructor to teach more intricate stuff. It's about value for me.

Speaking as a parent as well, you never know if your kids will stick with it, so I'd rather spend money on this up front, than spend the money for a private instructor to find out they lose interest in playing. Plus, with these DVD's, my son is hooked and looks forward to practicing every day. He hasn't stopped or lost interest in a little over 3 months.

THe WebSite supports the products in addition to supporting the player themselves. Supporting documents/tracks/tabs/forums will help every student of RockHouse develop into a formidable player. This is what surprised me the most. After buying the products, I continue to learn from John McCarthy and from other instructors/students through the WebSite. John also offers members chat options, where we can ask him questions directly via Chats. Just amazing. I feel like he cares about his students, regardless of them being 1600 miles away and lives to continue to support them.

I am also NOT a paid employee of RockHouse, I am just a very satisfied customer. Pick up this and his other DVD's and you will be to. Rock On!!!

I've been teaching myself to play guitar for about a year now and I've read many books on plays chords and lead. This video was great because it visually demonstrates techniques in ways that a book can never cover. After spend 2 months or so going through this DVD I'm now able to play some complex strumming patterns, a bunch of scales, perform bends, hammer-ons, pull offs. The books I've read did a good job of explaining the basics, but working with this DVD 3-4 times a week really helped convert the infromation from the books into actually playing skills.

I've been playing on and off for about 25 years. You know, start playing get bored put it away for awhile then pick it the guitar back up. Start all over and never feel like you get anywhere. This is the first learning DVD that has not only kept my interest but helped me expand my playing ability past what the DVD teaches. The lessons are well explained, taught and demonstrated by watching, listening and then hands on playing/practicing. It's the closest thing to an instructor and could be better than an average instructor. As a bonus you get access to one the best web site for free extra help. If you tried of learning Ode to Joy then try this. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Even if you had never held a guitar in your life, this DVD will have you playing a whole song in no time! It is really easy to follow and is really good at telling you what to do to get you to be the best guitar player you can be. It really works! IT's AWESOME! I would recommend it to ANY beginning guitar player.

This DVD is definitely worth the money. I have never picked up a guitar before so I was starting with no knowledge, however I do have a musical background having played piano for several years. I think the next best thing to actually paying big money for lessons is to use a combination of recommended guitar instruction books and DVD. The DVD gave an interesting approach to learning and allows you to start, stop, rewind, etc so you can practice, review, and try again. It really helps to see the hand and arm positions on the DVD as well. Hard to get that from a book. I think the DVD alone might be tricky but this, in addition to some good books are a great combo. FYI, I would recommend just about any book by Karl Aranjo. Excellent stuff!

The best intructional DVD on the face of the earth. It covers every thing from tuning to chord playing and guitar care.

I have been playing acoustic guitar for 17 years, but never learned to play the lead. I am learning the lead and having a tremendous amount of fun doing it. This video explains everything that you want to know. John McCarthy is an excellent instructor, easy to understand and provides real world examples through his instruction. The video also includes a membership to their web site which is another very useful tool to help you. You have the ability to write to the instructors and they respond very quickly. It's a good thing for me. I don't think you have to understand every thing this dvd shows especially when you are in the beginning. that means you don't have to ask such as why the chode is that or why the Am pantatonic is this. just practise the skill then later you'll get to know why. In my case, I've learned from a tutor for some time. so I understand the principles of chodes and Major or Minor patterns. But the just konwing doesn't make you a good player. In that respect, this dvd contains valuable contents.
