Product Description

Housed in a top secret location, the Asteroid Management Initiative (AMI) is a critical element in the Defense Department s struggle to keep the Earth safe from the constant onslaught of oncoming asteroids. Its heroes are the ROCK JOCKS, a group of overworked and underpaid misfits with exceptional satellite piloting skills. Our story begins during a night shift, where the Rock Jocks have arrived to fend off the asteroids, yet spend most of the evening fighting off boredom, themselves, and a meddling government bureaucrat hell-bent on shutting them down.

Review

Rock Jocks has a solid story and great script that felt like what you would get if Clerks (1994) and Repo Man (1984) had a love child who became an astronaut. --The Reel Li

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, Lasers go *pew* *pew* in space. July 16, 2013
Format:Amazon Instant Video|Verified Purchase
Take a small group of people, that don't like each other or their job, stick them in a small top secret bunker, make them sleep deprived, and expect them to save the world...all day and everyday. Laughed out loud too many times to count. A great situational character driven comedy with excellent performances by the cast. Had me drawing parallels between the characters in the movie and the people I have/do work with.

5.0 out of 5 stars So much fun! June 1, 2013

This movie was so funny! I don't know why more people haven't heard of it! Felicia Day, Jason Mews and the whole cast are awesome in it and I laughed the entire time. If you are a nerd who loves spaceships and needs a good funny film to watch - this is the droid (movie) you are looking for!

It's not surprising that the new indie "Rock Jocks" employs a cast that has a familiar and extensive online presence. In many ways, it feels like an extended web series as opposed to a full fledged feature film. I don't mean this as a huge criticism, it's just that this movie obviously has a tiny budget and seems to have been made on the fly. The entire scenario takes place over the course of about twelve hours and is largely confined to one set. The smartest thing that the movie does is to acknowledge its own inexpensiveness. In a funny bit of introduction to the facility, an antiquated instructional video tells the viewer that the station is populated with state of the art equipment from the 1960s. And it looks every bit that advanced! The facility in question is a top secret Department of Defense project called AMI or the Asteroid Management Initiative. On one overnight shift, the misfits that man the AMI face all the usual workplace issues: boredom, staff conflict, practical jokes, and peer assessments. But tonight, they also face a DOD bureaucrat that threatens to eliminate their jobs as well as the potential end of the world!

The movie begins as the overnight shift approaches. We meet an eclectic crew that includes Andrew Bowen (the burn-out), Felicia Day (the over-achiever), Gerry Bednob (the drunken veteran), Justin Chon (the annoying prankster), and Kevin Wu (the newbie plagued by insecurities). Can the fate of the world really be in their hands? The movie does not have much in the way of plotting, this really just explores the uncomfortable tedium prevalent in many an office job. Instead of sitting in cubicles, however, this team man lasers pointed toward space.

Not a high production value film, but I giggled through the whole thing. Very enjoyable, and that is what truly matters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really fun movie August 15, 2013
Format:DVD
I got to see this movie at Comic Con in the Geek and Sundry lounge, and it did not disappoint. They basically made a movie out of the arcade game Asteroids (they even had an arcade cabinet labeled "Rock Jocks" at the screening--wow!), and it was really good! It sucks this movie won't be getting a wider release, although they did say there would be some screenings. Oh well, I'm buying this for download, so at least everyone will have their chance.

"Rock Jocks" is a hilarious and knowing send up of a work environment where the conflicts and duties of a strange high tech project that combines a corporate, government/regulated milieu with area 51 myth inspired, whacked out, 21st century, diverse, recovering, stressed out work force. Think of "Office Space", "Buckaroo Bonzai", and even Monty Python rolled together. Very imaginative and a lot of fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nerds Rejoice! August 13, 2013
By BW
Format:DVD
I loved this movie! But, I'm not sure if people outside of nerd/geek culture will. There's a lot of obscure gamer and scifi references that your every day person may not get. Acting is not bad for some of the youtube stars that are in the movie and the professional ones are excellent. Nice cameos also! If you are a nerd/geek/gamer see the movie!

There is absolutely nothing P.C. (that being "politically correct") about ROCK JOCKS! Yes, you need to know that going in, otherwise you're liable to turn it off once the real fun starts. Sure, it's somewhat pottymouthed and somewhat unconventional, but mark my words: this is exactly the kind of motion picture your teenage son is probably watching once mom & dad turn off the lights and go to bed. No, it isn't pornographic, though certain acts will certainly be alluded to on more than one occasion. And, yes, it's a bit rowdy ... and bawdy ... and raucous ... and even downright obnoxious at times. Heck, this is probably the kind of flick that finds a solid audience at film festivals, comic book conventions, or sci-fi retreats where a good time is had by all because no one is concerned about the `appropriateness' or `inappropriateness' of the subject matter and performances.

(NOTE: The following review will contain minor spoilers necessary solely for the discussion of plot and characters. If you're the kind of reader who prefers a review entirely spoiler-free, then I'd encourage you to skip down to the last three paragraphs for my final assessment. If, however, you're accepting of a few modest hints at `things to come,' then read on ...)

In a top secret location, the U.S. government has been secretly saving the planet since the 1960's when a downed UFO and its curiously Jesus-looking alien occupant gifted Uncle Sam with the technology to deflect meteors from bombarding our planet.
