Biography

Following the disbandment of the short-lived synth pop group Yazoo, former Depeche Mode member Vince Clarke formed Erasure in 1985 with singer Andy Bell. Like Yaz and Depeche Mode, Erasure were a synth-based group, but they had stronger dance inclinations, as well as a sharper, more accessible sense of pop songcraft, than either of Clarke's previous bands. Furthermore, Erasure had the flamboyantly… Read more in Amazon's Erasure Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing. Stunningly amazing., June 8, 2006

Rock Me Gently [A Combination of Special Events] is one of the most beautiful works of art, possibly ever in the history of humankind. Staying true to the album version, it brings in an additional choir set which sends the track into the highest heavenly realms imaginable. Throw in a bit of extra vocoder, some additional percussion, and you have one of the greatest masterpieces of our time.

And hey, it's good to have for Chertsey Endlos too, one of Erasure's best b-sides. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars re-evaluation, September 29, 2004

I didn't care for this song until I heard the remixes. There is good variety here. The last song, a b-side, is cute and bouncy. I don't know what the title of the b-side means, but rock your head to it like a metronome anyway. The cover of the disc is romantic and homoerotic. Erasure is on their way down during this album, but this single is a nice one, nonetheless.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK for b-side, July 31, 2000

OK, another expensive import single from Erasure. So is it worth your ten bucks? Well, you get the single version and an ambient mix by Thomas Fehlmann, which are all well and good but I prefer the album version from their self titled album. Chertsey Endlos is a cheery if a bit minimalist synth ditty that lasts for about 6 minutes and the first half is sans vocals (the second half has one phrase repeated over and over). Then you get a live and *unplugged* version of Sono Luminius... but I'm not into Erasure because I like it unplugged! (As Andy Bell said, "We can't do it without a computer!") So there you have it, the b-side is alright, but it isn't much value to find one okay song on a ten dollar import.
