5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Musicological Analysis of a Great Album
If you have any interest in music theory and/or musicology and either like or are curious about Pink Floyd, this DVD is for you. Although the Floyd has dismissed the album that this DVD discusses, I consider it a turning point that led to future masterpieces like Meddle. Except for some of the silly syllables that the chorus has to sing, I consider the experiment between...

This review is from: Rock Milestones: Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother (DVD)
Almost all DVD time is worthless interviews, just few minutes of music.
Don't expect to listen more than a couple of short live cuts of AHM, and that's all!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, July 9, 2005
You'd think that for $26 you would get a live performance of the show. They did it in NYC, with ballet dancers, and was covered by Time magazine. There must be a video recording of it.

Otherwise, a lot of of interesting details about the projects and one of my favorite PF efforts. Hungry for anything PF, I enjoyed watching it, but as I said, to have a critical review without seeing the subject is highly disappointing. And the price for a TV documentary is outrageous.

1.0 out of 5 stars One more to the trash!, July 5, 2005
Really bad, where is the actual concert? the DVD promises the AHM concert here and there, yet there is no such concert, just fragments of a recording (real bad parts) with vague comments... I cannot believe PF is allowing this trash. No wonder why people end it up copying DVDs. Who wants to pay 20 bucks for this! One expect the concert fully restored or at least a complete song! NO, just fragments of music here and there... what's is going on???

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste ot Money and Time (no pun intended), August 2, 2005
I don't know why anyone would rate this 4 or 5 stars as this release is utterly crap.

"In depth research" ? ........ Bullocs! A 5 year old would have done a better review.

Being a hard-core Floyd fan I can bear a lot, but this was the most boring 90minutes I ever spend with my favorite band. Poor reviews, poor comments and when having the change to talk to Ron Geesin you'd at least expect more in-depth questions. E.g. what's the deal with Ron's collection of pluming equipment? Show his eccentricity?

What's really a blasphemy is that both "If" and "Summer of 68" are not even mentioned!

The Bath performance is really a joke. Blurry and distorted image in which it's hard to even identify what you're looking at. Furthermore, it's a few very (very!) short clip which are repeated a couple of times as well.

The only good thing to say about this release is the nice cow animation but for the rest it's certainly the poorest Floyd asset I have in my collection (actually, it's a tie with 'Inside Pink Ffloyd: a Critical Review")

1.0 out of 5 stars I should have known better........, April 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
......the few existing reviews were almost universally negative, but I'd ignored bad reviews many times in the past, finding that my opinion differed from those expressed in the negative review. In this case, however, I found that I agreed and felt that the negative comments were founded in reality. I guess the best indicator would be the fact that the producers of this self-important, self promotion (of Ron Geesin, who admittedly, was quite involved in the production of this album) were not allowed to use ANY of Pink Floyd's recording. They hired a 'sound-alike' (term used genorously) band to perform the music heard in this program.
There are a couple of snippets of input by the members of the band (taken apparently from press conferences - making their use legal), but that is the extent of their involvement. As for the promised 'only known film of PF performing AHM w/symphonic & choral backing' (I paraphrase), it is embarrasingly unrecognizable, inaudible bits of home movie footage, that would best have remained 'unknown'. Mr Geesin should be ashamed of himself. For anyone interested, his contributions to this album WERE monumental, but NOT to the denigration of the band's input (as seems to be the message, and the sole reason for the existance of this video). DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Musicological Analysis of a Great Album, November 28, 2008
If you have any interest in music theory and/or musicology and either like or are curious about Pink Floyd, this DVD is for you. Although the Floyd has dismissed the album that this DVD discusses, I consider it a turning point that led to future masterpieces like Meddle. Except for some of the silly syllables that the chorus has to sing, I consider the experiment between Geesin and the Floyd a successful one and this DVD shows why.

Floyd was still finding their way after the dismissal of founder Syd Barrett. Since the remaining members were unable to pen any pop singles, they continued to develop what was to become their trademark: the long melancholy space jam. First hinted at on Saucer Full of Secrets, the Atom Heart Mother album dedicates a entire side to a complete evolution of a space jam with the development of themes and a clear beginning, middle, and end. This bridged the gap between a jam and a composition which led to the likes of Echos and Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

This DVD gives you insight into the inner-workings of the title-track. I highly recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Some good stuff here and there, January 31, 2007

Not too much footage of any clear quality. Not much Floyd in general. It has some good moments though. I was expecting something different. I would have liked to see a whole performance of Atom Heart Mother.

1.0 out of 5 stars WARNING FLOYD FAN: DO NOT BUY THIS!, September 24, 2005
"In-Depth research"? PFFFTTT!!!!!!! A 5-year old can write a better review.

This is the worst thing about my fave band there possibly ever is... The songs are not remastered, they didn't mention my fave songs off AHM (Summer '68 and If), and ir dosent have the tour. The only good part is the cow animation.

I hope Pink Floyd sue the people who made this crappy DVD.
