I have every Poison and Bret Michaels album ever done, even though most of them nowadays are just re-releases of previous material -- this one being no exception. I'll admit it, I have no problem "funding Bret's retirement fund" (as another reviewer quipped). They've given me so much enjoyment over the years I'll support them in everything. No, it's not Poison and it did take me awhile to get used to Bret's solo sound. Once I did I fell in love with it also. And yeah, I wish they'd do more brand new stuff. That being said, I'm off to buy this latest one and eagerly awaiting the new (but not so new) Poison in a few weeks...

Great R&R album with meaningful lyrics on some songs and fun lyrics on the others. The sound is "updated 80s" and is way better than a lot of the new albums that come out these days.

Bret Michaels is a true rock n roller, but this solo CD also shows his sentimental side. A GREAT CD for any Bret Michaels/ Poison or Rock fan in general! Keep making music Bret! I'd love a new POISON CD as well! :-)

I have truly enjoyed the songs. If you are a Bret Michaels fan, you need this cd.

This album brings Rock and Roll back. The guitar work on this album is fantastic and Bret brings it with the vocals. "Go That Far" is an instant classic. If you are looking for a good disc to pop in for a road trip this is a great choice. Anyone that likes Poison and good rock music will love this album.

I've been a Poison fan since the beginning of time. lol...ok, since 86-87. Yes, this is Bret and his solo band, and not Poison.

However; this album is equal to or better than most Poison albums.

There are some true to form party rock tunes (Go That Far, It's My Party), some Beautiful ballads (Fallen, All I Ever Needed), and a fun track that will make anyone who has gone through a bad relationship-- smile and laugh. (Bittersweet)
Also, there is a heavier, more haunting track that I adore! (Right Now, Right Here)

Bret's voice is strong and sexy as ever, and the lyrics in his ballads will melt the hardest of hearts.

If you want a great rock CD and you love Bret's voice, do yourself a favor and pick up Rock My World.

Also catch Bret out on the road, as he is touring right now. I caught a show about a week ago, and he is still smokin hot, sounded great, and put on a hellofa show.

The Good
A gritty guitar riff followed by an infectious guitar run dominates the opening track "Go That Far." A blusey guitar progression is the prefect match for Michael's breathy vocals as he laments about his current squeeze. "Raine" (whom I believe is Bret's daughter) is a loving and touching acoustic ballad about a special bond. "Bittersweet" inject a little Poison flare with it's energetic groove and singable chorus. It's all acoustics on "Songs of Life." Lyric wise this may just be Bret's most mature work. "Strange Sensation" is one of those arena rockers that will make you want to fight or [...]. Michael's divulges his hidden affection for when his lady gets made at him. "All I Ever Needed" is one of those looking back on life ballads. "It's My Party" is anthemic in it's delivery but quite funny lyrically.

The Verdict
In the past Bret Michael's solo material has been a bit...how should I say ....boring. He didn't really want to know if he wanted to be an acoustic-blues guy, an arena rocker, or a country singer. On Rock My World, Bret finds a way to have his cake and eat it too. Michael mixes up his still from beginning to end, but still manages to keep it interesting. If you can get Poison out of you head, and listen to this album objectively, you're going to find some really good material.

Great CD!! I loved it all. Bret is a great musician and a great person. As a fan he will always have my support. Rock on Bret!!!!
