I bought this for my 18 month old son because I was in need of something educational for him to watch for short periods of time. I'm not really comfortable with him watching shows that may be fun and keep his attention, but ultimately, are full of nonsense; Once in a while is fine, but I felt I needed to mix it up a bit.

Having said that, I was very skeptical when purchasing any educational DVD for my son because I know how hard it can be to keep an infant/toddler's attention. I actually tried another brand of DVD's (Leap Frog) to no avail; Within the first 3 minutes he was already tired of it. But let me tell you, the Rock N' Learn PreSchool DVD does an AMAZING job at at keeping my son interested and entertained! I believe my son would sit there and watch the whole video if I'd let him.

If you have any inkling that your infant may be interested in shapes, letters, animals, or numbers, don't hesitate purchasing a DVD such a this (although it has so much more to offer and teach than what I just listed).

I took a shot in the dark and purchased this DVD and to my amazement, when we got home we put it on and selected to go through the whole thing, I was so impressed! He especially LOVES the ABC segment. This particular segment is a 3D animated "circus adventure" with a "real life" Ring Leader who guides the children through each letter. I was very impressed with how they didn't just show the letters on the screen, but they took the time to go through each individual letter and show uppercase and lowercase, objects/people that start with the letter and very catchy songs and animated circus scenes for each one. And that is just the ABC segment!

I'm a fan of Rock N Learn educational DVDs. We have three of them and this one, by far, was the best investment! As a matter of fact, they don't sell this one anymore on the Rock n Learn website. And I understand why. It's very long and definitely intended to be view in sections. So, that's what they've done to the newer copies, broke the DVD up into seperate DVDs. So what an investment (in my view) to get so many preschool lessons on one DVD! Excellent for road trips.

It starts with the alphabet, both lower and upper case, and word recognition. It does an OUTSTANDING job with animals, showing cartoons pictures as well as real life pictures. The songs are terrific. My three year old loves singing along! Learning about the different animals is his favorite part! The DVD teaches about numbers (to 20 not just 10), shapes, colors and even some Spanish. This video is an excellent reinforcer to what your child is already learning and a great introduction to areas they are beginning to explore. I highly recommend it!!!

I teach preschool children with some developmental delays. I love these DVD's. I try to only show my students educational DVD's and no more than once a week. These are perfect for my class, because all my students enjoy them. I have 3,4, and 5 year olds in my class and it hit all age ranges. I find these to be useful educational tools.

I taught preschool for several years before becoming a mother myself and deciding to stay at home with my son. I bought this video because the back of the case advertised sixteen preschool skills, including letter recognition, animal habitats, colors, and shapes. Because let's face it, sometimes I need my son to just sit and watch something so I can get stuff done. And if he is going to watch something, I'd prefer it to be educational.

The visuals mix computer graphics, two dimensional photographs, nature video clips, people on a green screen, and the occasional trippy background (think 1990s screen savers).

The songs are on a variety of topics and use repetition to really hammer the key words down. The chocolate is brown! Brown brown brown. (Hey, repetition works.) The lyrics are not especially inventive, and the music has that warm and fuzzy digital keyboard sound we've all grown accustom to.

    Pros
The video is long, with many short segments. You can play all or choose a segment.
The sixteen skills advertised on the back are all included in the music videos, so it advertises truthfully.
If you need a really long video, this is about 2 hours total.
The segment about library books throws in some literary reflections made about a book the characters read. That impressed me (though the story itself did not).
The bilingual songs are nice, but story songs would have better retention (the characters sing the words in a list)
The animation is pretty good for 1995.

    Cons
This was produced in 2009. The animation is very low quality. Budget aside, the animators did a sloppy job, especially with the green screen effects. The circus ringleader sometimes has parts of his face chopped off.

This is a great purchase for any preschooler! I have 3 kids, 5 and under and all of them are locked into the TV when I play this. Also, I have bought it as a gift for 4 other preschoolers and guess what- same with them; all big fans.

The content is interesting, educational and enjoyable for kids and they really just plain like it. Of course as a parent, some of the music and sound is really annoying, but that kind of goes along with being a parent to preschoolers- not made to entertain adults.

You will be happy you bought this. :)
