Reigns as one of the first and best of the 50s rock films. Features 16 musical numbers by Rod McKuen, Henry Mancini, Bobby Troup and Sonny Burke... plus the acting talents of teen heartthrobs Sal Minero and John Saxon. The story deals with some of the typical troubles of growing up, like parental misunderstanding and the awakening of true love. John Saxon plays a high school senior who wants to be a professional musician. Of course, his father (Edward C. Platt) has other plans. He wants his son to follow in his own footsteps and become a doctor. Saxon sets out to prove he can make it in the music world. He saves up enough cash to buy a guitar and joins Sal Mineo's band. They get off to a shaky start, but they're getting ready for a talent contest that could prove to be their big break. Luana Patten is the other half of Saxon's boy-girl interests, while Fay Wray plays his charming and understanding mother. Shelley Fabares also adds a cheeky performance as Saxon's adolescent sister.
