You'll see well-known climbers on notorious climbs, but they don't stand out. Epperson has chosen fresh points of view and captions are banished to the back of the book. This invites you to linger over the images, and to guess. When you get to them, the answers are framed in historical tidbits, giving a unique glimpse of cutting edge climbing over the last two decades. -- Climbing Magazine, march 1999
each page of climbing photographer greg epperson's new photo retrospective will remind you of why you climb. this compact volume, with 83 black and white photographs, is like a jewelry case stuffed with heirlooms, rich with meaning and memory. some are new, some are familiar-yet even those previously published in color seem fresh when seen here in crisp black and white.
epperson, of course, helped pioneer modern climbing photography, especially the wide-angle shot from 10 o'clock high that produces a feeling of heart-thumping exposure. but, as this colleciton reminds us, epperson is no mere technician. his evocations of the many textures of rock have the character and singularity of portraiture. and his decisive timing allows him to capture the human expression of climbing-snarls, moans, whimpers and teeth-grinding grimaces. in eppi's rock prints, the human face and the rock face combine to create genuine masterpieces. -- Rock & Ice, #89

book review,
By A Customer
This review is from: Rock Prints (Hardcover)
This is one of the best climbing picture books I have ever seen. The expression that has been captured in these photos is unparalleled. All climbers will be able to identify with the struggle and passion that is portrayed in Greg Epperson's ONLY book. I have heard that this was a limited printing with only 2000 of these books left. Any climber that misses out on this opportunity will truly be unfortunate.

A classic of climbing photography,
By Bryan O'Sullivan (CA, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rock Prints (Hardcover)
Greg Epperson goes to great lengths to take wonderful photographs of climbers in action, and this book skims a little of the finer cream of his work. Epperson is among the finest of adventure photographers, and his crisply understated monochrome images provide a welcome respite from the saturated overdramatic work of better-known photographers such as Galen Rowell. If only this book were available in a much larger format!
