4.0 out of 5 stars Different, but in a good way... December 24, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Danko Jones (the man and the band) has single-handedly been responsible for some of the finest rock 'n' roll made in the last 10 years. His rock 'n' roll is loud, proud, full of attitude, and seriously fun in a way that isn't seen nearly as much ever since an army of Pear Jam clones have killed what was left of radio.

Unfortunately, America at large doesn't seem to give a crap about these guys. Its a shame, because their music is awesome, and their live show is even better (I saw them open for Clutch in Madison, and despite running into PA problems his whole set, Danko still had the audience in the palm of his hand the entire time, he's just an incredible stage act).

So we have a new album, not even a year and half after the last one. How is it? Well, pretty good, overall, but a bit different than usual. How so? Well, its hard to describe. Danko is crooning a bit more on this album, and his slower vocal melodies are contrasted by the band still playing a pretty fast grind behind him. The whole effect reminded me a few times of the Foo Fighters' "The Colour and The Shape," which isn't a bad thing, but different for Danko.

Also, the band is looser, not as rigidly tight as before, with JC playing a lot more bass fills and Danko himself taking up an even heavier (and slightly more post-punk) approach to his guitar. Again, this isn't bad, but it is does result in a different feel. The instrumental maturity is appreciated, but its weird to hear frills now attached to what is usually no-frills rock.

That said, in this case "different" is not in any way "bad" and the songs are the most important part. This album has some great songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars virile, muscular, rebelliously irreverent rock `n' roll February 28, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
9th album from underrated rockers out of Canada--virile, muscular rock `n' roll with heavy,
smashing guitars and a fun, rebelliously irreverent in-your-face attitude & energy. Stylistically, it's
a potent mix of punk fervor, ripping metal chords and sneering, celebratory, bombastic power
rock. Recalls bits of AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, Social Distortion, 3 Colours Red, the Bronx, Motorhead,
Japandroids, Devo's "Mongoloid". Killer!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Should be called "We Sweat Honey" March 29, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
If you never heard of Danko and looked at the front cover before listening to the CD, you would expect your face to get ripped off by the music. Instead, the songs are totally unlike the "badass" image on the cover. While the songs are fun, they arent as filled with punch as previous efforts. The opening track is killer and catchy but many of the songs sound like toned down versions of others in their earlier library. The song "Type of Girl" is actually pretty bad; The "Baaaabyyy, Baaaabyy....Baaaaaabyyyyy" Line is just way too Justin Beeber like. Overall it's good, not great...and it definetly does NOT sweat blood, more like honey.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent album, but not their best December 28, 2012

This album doesn't quite live up to the standards of Sleep Is The Enemy or We Sweat Blood, but it's still a good listen if you're a devoted Danko fan.
