True fans of ShaNaNa will appreciate this vintage CD of their first 2 albums. You can see how much the group evolved since their early days, the original line up was more of a street tough looking group you would see the likes of in New York. The harmonies are quite good and they stay pretty true to the covers of the original artists, its great that this CD was released. You can definately hear the difference between the studio album and the live recording, as well as the change in sound with the line up changes. Its fun sounding and makes you remember when things were simpler and less complicated then they are now. So just sit back and enjoy"

The CD is a double album of Sha Na Na (Rock and Roll Is Here To Stay & their self titled album which includes another 14 tracks) I bought this CD solely to get the original transfer from the vinyl album of Rock and Roll is Here to Stay, which is long out of print and very hard to find. The cuts on the CD are the original cuts from the vinyl record, and are worth well worth the price on their own. Consider the addtional album "Sha Na Na' a bonus. If you are looking to get your first CD of Sha Na Na this is the one to get. If you have only a few cuts on other CD's or dont have the studio version cuts of Rock and Roll is here to stay, this is the CD to get. In many cases, I think the Sha Na Na cuts on Rock & Roll are better than the original artists.

It was a great live album I bought many years ago as a lp but since the cd took over somewhere in the eighties, this lp was never available as a cd.
You wonder why because it's Sha Na Na at their best with great versions of 'Duke of Earl' and 'Tell Laura I love her'.
For all you out there, that may have doubts if it still sounds as you might remember when you where young, it does.
Certainly worth your money.

Long ago, I had purchased the live Sha Na Na concert vinyl album recorded at Columbia University (Gold Boots!) and loved it. When I saw it was available on CD with their first album, I quickly bought it.

I would rate their first album included on this disc(the first 14 cuts) as good with their versions of the oldies from the 50's/60's. It is their original line up with many of the members leaving and moving into professional careers (yes, doctors and lawyers!).

Of course, the highlight for me is the actual live concert (cuts 15 through 22) with a loud, fully appreciative audience at Columbia University. You can just picture their best lineup with Bowzer, Jocko, Lennie Baker, Screamin' Scott, Santini, Donnie and their buddies going through their "tough guy" antics and singing good oldies with great harmonies...with the classic line of telling the "hippies" that "Rock and Roll is Here to Stay" to a huge loud roar from the students. Great stuff.

The last 6 studio cuts are pretty much forgettable. I have tried to listen and appreciate these but I keep going back to that great live concert....you will too. A great purchase for those cuts alone.

The real treasure is the 1971 self-titled album - I was given the vinyl album when I was 7 and have enjoyed it for more than 30 years. Side A was live and side B was all original tracks. I wish they'd done a full album of originals as they were great audio snapshots of the sound of the early 70s. I would have liked to have known the story and inspiration behind the original tunes as opposed to the traditional 50's songs. A beloved soundtrack of my childhood.

this is a great cd of the oldies that this group had. i love the collection of songs that the group did. also i like the stories about the group in the bio that was/is included with the cd. great service from amazon and other places that sell for them, buy it!!!!
