The main song is bad, but the remixes are even worse!

Since Musicology Prince has been trying to remind everyone of what was great about Old School. Not just old school Prince but old school soul/funk and rock and roll. This song is kind of a back to basics but not in a boring way. I've heard a few people say it was bland, it's probably because they didn't really listen to the words or they do not care for the toned down Prince. Everyone in the know knows he is now a Jehovah's Witness so there is no profanity or overtly sexual lyrics (well not like anything he's done in the past). But to dismiss new music because it doesn't sound like the old stuff is silly and really is a way to miss out on great music. While he has definitely reminded us of the old MLPS sound, he isn't trying to just bring back the glory days he's just trying to make sure there is great music out there. In an era of computer generated musical performers who's whole repetoire is more or less just point and click, it's great to hear real music being played by one of Rocks's great masters. It's a definite Rock/Soul vibe with a small bit of late 70s thrown in. I just hope this is a tease of what is to come, if so the next album should be great. A definitely must have even though the remixes are a bit bland and something that Madonna would probably approve of/like (but I wouldn't) this is still worth the purchase for the original single version and slightly extended version. I miss singles:) Nice to see people are still interested in buying them. This is definitely worth the price....

I feel this should have been released in the summer instead of winter because its perfect for cruising with the top down, and it should be a huge hit .Prince however refuses to promote anything and very little of the world will get the chance to hear this perfect pop gem.

Love this CD.....great energetic music from Prince. Happy music to play in your car or to do your exercise routine. Great variety of sounds and his singing sounds excellent. He performed this song on the Jimmy K. Show with great exuberance in October. Keep working Prince!

Three decades plus after his debut, Prince continues to be a musical innovator, and offers up another track that will have you tapping your feet.

When the hard copy versions (CD/Vinyl) of this single came out I was kind of excited... until I saw the prices that they wanted for them... OUCH! That being said, if you're a fan and your money is tight, than this digital download is perfect especially at price listed! As for the actual tracks, in my opinion only Track #1 - Rock and Roll Love Affair (Original Extended Mix) and Track #3 - Rock and Roll Love Affair (Jamie Lewis Stripped Down Mix) are worthwhile. The other versions are meh, especially when compared to "RNR Affair Remix #7" that Prince himself has officially released elsewhere. NOTE: If possible because of the other three versions, I'd only have given this 3 and a half stars but for whatever reason only 'whole stars' are an option. (PS> Been a fan of his music for over 3 decades now just so you know where I'm coming from regarding this review!) Peace & Enjoy!

Once again, Prince has done something that has to grow on me. Those are usually the best ones. I will say that the party versions are more appealing than the radio versions.

I'm not digging the lyrics especially. It seems like since Prince has joined the Jehovah's Witnesses his lyrics have suffered mightily. This song is the latest example. His singing sounds bored, uninterested and uninspired. I have never heard his voice sound so dead and flat. Prince's voice has never sounded bad on any of his recordings, until now. I have all of his official stuff and even a few boots. His delivery has always been effortlessly spectacular, that is.... until now. What happened? I know Prince is past 50 and I'm not one to speak against a man's spirituality, but Prince's art is clearly suffering because of the religion that he is currently involved in. It's like he's looking over his shoulder when he writes his songs now. It seems like he's writing lyrics to cater to whoever the powers-that-be are in the religion. Just my opinion, of course, but, Prince you need to be re-inspired. You need to get back to being you.
