Don't be put off by the less-than-stellar song production, as mentioned by another reviewer. Yes, it would be nice to have a thundering-ly loud master of these rockers....but a few years ago, I wouldn't have even expected this be committed to CD in the first place, so I'm happy. Besides, it's not like the movie has A-list FX; that's part of the charm. As is the way underpolished qaulity of these songs. And I LOVE the bits of score and dialog. This is what all soundtracks should be like, in my opinion. The jams, the score, the talking. If you like this movie, you should get the CD. If you don't like the movie, I doubt you will much appreciate what this disc has to offer anyway.

I wanted this album for the the rock songs performed by Thor and the Tritons. Its fairly cool 80's glam that sounds like a cross between early Motley Crue and Ratt. Unfortunately these decent songs are interspersed with a fairly wretched keyboard movie score (also written by Thor) and lame dialogue to form a kind of rock opera follows the plot of the film. Not terribly bad, but I'll probably make a separate CD of just the rock band. If you don't own the DVD of the movie, buy it instead, its hilariously bad.

I have loved this movie and it's soundtrack ever since I first saw the film. Years ago, I managed to track down an awesomely rare copy of the vinyl album soundtrack. I recorded the album into my computer, added some noise reduction to take care of some of the static and pops, and eventually had my own CD soundtrack to play in my car. I also added some great dialogue tracks from the film, which the makers of this release did as well. I was extremely excited to learn that a new release of the soundtrack was coming and couldn't wait to hear the clean, CD quality transfer that the soundtrack deserves. Unfortunately, it turns out that my own homemade vinyl album conversion sounds BETTER than this CD. I don't understand how that's possible, but it's true. The tracks sound thin, muddy, and at times ear-piercingly screetchy. It almost sounds like I am listening to the album streaming in low quality from the internet. This is terribly disappointing, because tracks like "Energy" and "Heads Will Turn" deserve a much higher quality sound than this. I do believe that all of the tracks were poorly recorded to begin with, but the bottom line is that the vinyl album sounds much better than this. Perhaps what we really need is a complete re-recording of the soundtrack, replacing Thor with someone who is still able to sing in glorious falsetto.
