Editorial Reviews

Hot off the heels of Night Ranger's celebrated 2011 CD, Somewhere In California, and a massive North American tour with Night Ranger as support for Journey and Foreigner last year, much-beloved singer/songwriter/bass player extraordinaire Jack Blades returns with his 2012 solo album, Rock 'n' Roll Ride. Features guest appearances from. Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), Kelly Keagy and Joel Hoekstra (Night Ranger) and Brian Tichy (Whitesnake).

For any fan of Jack Blades, this CD has everything. Hard rock, softer ballad-y songs, feel good music. For anyone who is a Night Ranger fan and is thinking of buying this (by association), do. You will not be disappointed. I've been a fan since the early 80s and continually add to my collection. Several songs are heavy and are seeming tributes to service members. Other songs scream with an emotional intensity of a million burning flames. There are truly no bad tracks to this CD. Favorite songs (at the moment!): Born for this, Anything for you, Hardest Words to say (which should be on Top 40 radio), Anything for you (with a Beatle-esque sound), Say You Will (which would be a great show opener), Hey Now (a very bluesy piece that showcases Jack's rough edged voice).

This is a great Rock/Pop effort from Jack Blades (best known from Night Ranger & Damn Yankees). Though it sticks to the general Hard Rock to Hard Pop territory that Night Ranger is known for, these songs don't really feel, stylistically, like Night Ranger. Perhaps the solo album is a cleaning out of his inventory of songs that just didn't fit in with the Night Ranger style for some reason? I hear some songs in here that fit a little more with the known styles of T.Rex, and AC/DC, guitarwise. And another song that incidentally does feature Robin Zander of Cheap Trick would fit in well in the repetoire of Cheap Trick, or perhaps a band like The Knack. Still a great collection of songs!

Jack Blades is a great musician - from NR to DY to Shaw/ Blades to his own solo stuff. This is another example of great music that you will unfortunately not hear on the radio that you can hear whenever you want if you own his music. I am so glad I bought this. He takes the listener on their own rock-n-roll ride.

This is a great album...but beware: Most of the song titles in the mp3 download version of this album are assigned to the wrong songs. The first two songs and last two songs are correct, but everything in between is messed up (just one example, what's labeled as "Hardest Word To Say" is actually "Born For This." Hoping Amazon can provide a corrected version at some point to those of us that have purchased it.

Hot on the heels of last year's Night Ranger comeback album (Somewhere in California), guitarist/singer/songwriter Jack Blades is back with Rock n' Roll Ride, his second solo album. Blades, who is also known for his work in Damn Yankees and Shaw-Blades, is one of the best songwriters in melodic rock, and any time he has an album out it's worth paying attention. This one is better than most, though.

As enjoyable as Somewhere in California was, Rock n' Roll Ride is probably a better overall album. Blades, with some help from bandmates Kelly Keaggy and Joel Hoekstra as well as Brian Tichy (Whitesnake/Foreigner) and Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), delivers a melodic rock album that has traces of Night Ranger, Damn Yankees and Shaw-Blades. It's got some great upbeat rock n' roll songs and some slower, bluesier numbers, but the whole album has a great classic rock vibe. Blades's vocals are obviously a highlight, but he serves up some great guitar hooks as well.

It goes without saying that Night Ranger fans are going to love Rock n' Roll Ride. It's a fantastic album that's in keeping with the Night Ranger style, and it's also one of the better melodic rock albums released so far in 2012. Fans of Tyketto, Jeff Scott Soto, Journey, Mr. Big and the like will definitely want to check this album out.

it doesn't hold a candle to the Night Ranger release Somewhere in California. I had been advised by friends this album was even better but it doesn't have the edgy guitar work that I prefer. The songs are just a bit too mid paced or slower for my tastes even though they are quite decently written. My wife called the album "quite retro sounding" which is somewhat true & ok with both of us. If you really love Jack & all his related works you'll dig this album....I do but it will not be in heavy rotation. I can easily set it up with a few other choice 80's albums & it will fit nicely for a comfy listen.

Rock 'n Roll Ride is exactly what this new solo album is!!
If your a Night Ranger/Jack Blades fan this is a gift for you. Jack Blades takes you on a 30 year journey of Rock 'n Roll. You hear the influences of Jack's music in this, what I would call a semi biography of songs. Jack's meaningful lyrics with smoking hot guatair licks will appeal to wide variety of music fans. Buy it, crank it up and go for a Rock 'n Roll Ride!!!!!
