Biography

Marty Robbins was one of the original country music singers, and his long career promoted him to the top of his game in America, where he won the affection of many lovers of the genre.

His upbringing was textbook; raised as one of ten to a poor family in Arizona and hearing cowboy stories on the knee of his grandfather, a former Texas Ranger and medicine show performer. His music career began after… Read more in Amazon's Marty Robbins Store

Editorial Reviews

Here's the album Marty wanted to forget he ever recorded. The fabulously rare ten-inch LP has been rounded up to 19 tracks to include all of Marty's rock 'n' roll recordings. Highlights are 'That's All Right', 'Maybellene', 'Pretty Mama', 'Tennessee Toddy', 'Singin' The Blues', 'Long Tall Sally', 'Knee Deep In The Blues', and 'I Can't Quit'. His heart may not have been in rock 'n' roll, but that doesn't mean he couldn't shake it up! --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fiddlin' Rockabilly, June 16, 2004

This review is from: Rockin' Rollin' Robbins (Audio CD)
Marty Robbins covered rockabilly and rock 'n' roll songs (That's All Right, Long Tall Sally, Maybellene,...), wrote few originals ("Mean Mama Blues", "Pretty Mama", "Tennessee Toddy", "Mister Teardrop"...). He was the first one who recorded "Singing the Blues" and "Knee Deep in the Blues" (both written by Melvin Endsley) but Guy Mitchell made it for a pop market and won. Same thing happened with "You Don't Owe Me a Thing". He wrote it but Johnnie Ray won the charts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock'n Robbins!, November 17, 2011

This review is from: Rockin' Rollin' Robbins (Audio CD)
Rock'n Roll'n Robbins / Marty Robbins Sings: This fantastic CD from Bear Family Records collects the Rockabilly tracks that legendary Country artist Marty Robbins cut during the early to mid 1950's. While it's obvious that Marty wasn't going to become a Rockabilly legend with these songs, it has to be said that these cuts are a Whole Lot of Fun to listen to. Marty Robbins may have been a Country Legend but he made records using several different styles during his career and so it should be no big surprise to any of his fans that he had given Rockabilly music a shot early on (although I doubt if there are many of his fans that know these recordings exist). This one is Highly Recommended.
