3.0 out of 5 stars Rock?
This didn't "rock" enough to get the kids excited. In fact, it almost got ugly when they accused me of liking Cold Play... which I do, but that's besides the point. They should have called it "Soft Rock the SAT" or "Songs about the SAT Your Parents Might Jam to". The kids preferred "Flocabulary," but, in all seriousness, Rock the SAT had better definitions and materials.

My mom recently purchased this CD/book for me, and within three days, I had memorized half of the songs. They are catchy and fun to listen to. I have never had an easier way to learn vocabulary words- studying through books is tedious. Rock the SAT uses about 20 vocab words per song, and there are context clues so even if you don't look up the words' definitions in the book, (which I still recommend), you will learn the words. I haven't taken my test yet, but I keep coming across many Rock the SAT words in my practice tests- and it makes me thankful that we came across this wonderful CD! My favorite songs are Coalesce, Spitball in the Eye, Harbinger, and Salacious- although I like them all!

5.0 out of 5 stars SAT-tutor approved!, September 7, 2006
This review is from: Rock the SAT: Trick Your Brain into Learning New Vocab While Listening to Slamming Music (Paperback)
I've been tutoring SAT students in Manhattan, Connecticut, and New Jersey for ten years now, and I've never seen any other resource or material like this book/CD. It's really a whole new way to approach studying vocab - one of the most dreaded and most necessary parts of preparing for the test - that I think students will really go for. The songs are terrific! I just got my hands on this book (after a friend recommended it) and can't wait to use it with my students this fall.

It's a lot more fun than the other SAT books/flashcards out there, I must say. As an avid music listener, the music isn't amazing, but it works. The words range from really easy (moasic, parallel) to difficult (the first song - reticence, taciturn, laconic). You can prevew a song on the Rock the Sat website too.

There's also Vocab Rock, and it uses more than one genre of music - it had R&B and everything else, not just rock music like this book. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm thinking about getting it.

I'm in high school and my mom bought me this cd. I really like it. The music is catchy and good and sounds like the stuff I listen to anyway. The book is actually really funny,if you can believe that. It's way better than some of the boring stuff I've tried. It's a great way to learn sat vocab without really feeling like you're doing hard work.

I bought this as a birthday gift for my two daughters and they love it. They tell me they learned many new words. They want to know if there is another book coming soon. Thank you.

My dad bought me this CD and I was a little hesitant since, well, my dad bought me this CD. But I have to say I really like the music, and I feel like I've picked up a lot of vocabulary words. If even one or two of them end of on the test, then this CD is worth it's weight in gold. You might think an "educational CD" couldn't possibly be cool, but you'd be wrong. I mean, the songs don't make you want to run out and pierce your nipples or anything, but still, they are very well produced, and the melodies are catchy. I am recommending this CD to my friends. If you are a parent, this would be a great gift to buy your kid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Alternative Rock by Real Rockers with Degrees, July 26, 2006
This review is from: Rock the SAT: Trick Your Brain into Learning New Vocab While Listening to Slamming Music (Paperback)
This book/cd set is well written, easy to follow, fun to read and will make learning the esoteric SAT words a pleasure rather than a chore. I've seen these guys play in NYC on Bleecker Street, and they are the real deal. The music and words are very catchy and memorable, and before you know it, you will be telling your friends they are solipsistic egomaniacs. And maybe they'll be contrite and buy you lunch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for the SAT, August 7, 2006
This review is from: Rock the SAT: Trick Your Brain into Learning New Vocab While Listening to Slamming Music (Paperback)
I have been an SAT Tutor for the most elite students in New York City for 8 years, and this CD is an absolute must buy. I have all of my students buy it. Who has time or a desire to study flash cards? Rock the SAT takes all the work out of vocab studying and makes it fun! One recent student scored an 800 on her Verbal section and said to me, "I could here the lyrics going through my head during the test. Rock the SAT saved me!" It's that good.
