About the Author

Judy Davids was a suburban soccer mom with rock n roll dreams when she picked up a guitar and decided to start a mom rock band. Soon after, The Mydols was born. Suddenly Judy found herself in the pages of the supermarket tabloid The Sun while shopping for Lunchables.

She lives in Royal Oak, Michigan with her husband John, sons Dylan and Willie, and a Black Labrador Retriever named Ozzie.

This book is so thoroughly enjoyable I could not put it down. It will make you laugh, it will make you think, but mostly it will make you wonder: maybe I could . . . (fill in the blank with your dream!). It's not a gritty, play by play account, but more of an overview of how a dream was reached. I love the humor of it as well as the genuineness: the author never pretends to be anything other than what she was, a bored housewife looking to make her life more exciting by doing something so unexpected and so much fun that it literally rocked her world! Ms. Davids never takes herself too seriously, constantly referring to her utter inability to play her instrument, her management inexperience (not that it stopped her!), her waffling between lack of confidence and the unerring belief that this was something she could do. The mom dictionary items that appear randomly throughout the text are hysterical, probably because they ring so true to any mom who has tried to have it all.

Okay, so maybe Judy Davids and her band never really became rock "stars" as we think of them, but they certainly are shining stars in this world where so many accept their workaday lot. I love her drive and persistence; her humor throughout her experience makes her a star in my eyes! Perhaps the most interesting part of the story though is the author's realization that, once she achieved her dream of successfully playing in a rock band, her family was more important. It really does seem that, in the end, maybe you can't have it all. But it's a great story of one woman's determined road to that realization. I loved it.

Being a musician from Detroit, it was fun to read all the local rock 'n' roll references in "Rock Star Mommy." But you don't have to be in a band or live in the Motor City - or even be a mom for that matter - to enjoy this book. Judy's fun story about forming an all-girl band at the age of 42 proves it's never too late to go after a dream.

Creativity doesn't end with motherhood, it just gets cooler (and if you want to survive, funnier).
Read Judy's account of forming the soccer mom-infused band the Mydols and their unlikely journey into stardom with no previous experience. This inspiring book has heart and humor. Judy artfully recounts her American tale of innovation, creativity, and smarts while trying to keep up with the laundry and juggling the countless unexpected day to day stuff of mom life.
